Rev. E.R. Gaines, died Thursday, April 19, 2001.
Rev. Gaines helped organize the Colored Lee County Ministerial Alliance, the Greater P.L.M. & D. District Association of churches. He also pastored several churches in the Lee and Phillips County area.
Funeral services for Rev. Gaines will be Saturday, April 28, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Walnut Grove M.B. Church in Marianna under the direction of Hightower and Sons Funeral Home in Marianna.
Mr. Wilbur E. "Alex" Hamilton, age 74, of Wynne, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. Hamilton, born Sept. 9, 1926, in Colt, was the son of Wilbur Earnest Hamilton Sr. and Mattie Pearson Hamilton. He was a resident of St. Francis and Cross counties all of his life. He was an employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1950 to 1965 where he was an installer and repairman. From 1965 to 1984 he was a contractor for Southwestern Bell. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a member of the Fitzgerald Baptist Church in Wynne.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Wanda Cox Hamilton of Wynne; a son, Loy Alex Hamilton of Wynne; a daughter, Anga Hamilton Turner of Wynne; a sister Amy Jenell Hamilton Damanti of Wynne a half-sister, Elizabeth Hamilton Cary of Hollow Rock, Tenn. and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Mable Clegg Hamilton.
Funeral services for Mr. Hamilton were held graveside today, Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Loughridge Cemetery near Colt with Rev. Ellis Jones and Rev. James Tallant officiating under the direction of Kernodle Funeral Home of Wynne.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Fitzgerald Baptist Church in Wynne.
Mrs. Ruth Aycock Haven, age 79, of Forrest City, died Sunday, April 22, 2001.
Mrs. Haven was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Hazen. She was the daughter of L.P. Aycock and Mildred Scott Aycock. Mrs. Haven was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Forrest City Junior Auxiliary. She was a master flower show judge and was an honorary member and past president of the Garden Gate Club.
Mrs. Haven is survived by her husband, Henry T. Haven of Forrest City; one daughter, Ann Haven Morledge of Little Rock; two sons, Henry T. Haven Jr. of Harrisburg, Penn. and John L. Haven of Jonesboro; one sister, Gerry Aycock Rhodes of Hazen; one brother, Scott Aycock of Hazen; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation for Mrs. Haven will be Tuesday, April 24, 2001, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held graveside Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. Rex Darling officiating under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Annie Mable McCoy Organ Huff, age 73, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Huff was born Jan. 7, 1928, and was the daughter of William Woody McCoy and Liddie P. David McCoy. She was a housekeeper and an employee of a mobile home manufacturer prior to retirement.
Mrs. Huff was preceded in death by her husbands, James R. Organ and George Huff. She is survived by four sons, Jimmy Organ of Memphis, Johnny Organ of Elaine, Jerry Organ of Tyronza and Joey Organ of Jonesboro; a brother, Bill McCoy of Parkin; a sister, Dorothy Snelson of Colt; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Huff will be Wednesday, April 25, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 26, 2001, at 1 p.m., at Morgan Chapel with Pastor D.G. Daniels and Bro. Marvin Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Cemetery in West Memphis under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allie Roe Lasater, age 86, of Forrest City, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Lasater was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Newark and was the daughter of Adrian C. Marshall and Minnie Barber Marshall. She lived in Forrest City most of her life. Mrs. Lasater was a beautician and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Lasater in 1964 and Mrs. Lasater is survived by two brothers, Clyde Marshall of Dayton, Ohio and Claude Marshall of Newark and two sisters, Dorothy McCormick and Betty Durham, both of California.
Visitation for Mrs. Lasater will be Tuesday, April 24, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carrie Louise Smith Oxner, age 80, of Marianna, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Oxner, a homemaker, was born January 23, 1921, in Oak Forrest, to John Robert Smith and Nettie Pearl Womble. Mrs. Oxner was a Methodist.
Mrs. Oxner is survived by her husband, Clentis Oxner of Marianna; three daughters, Carolyn Skinner of Bradford, Eugenia Boals of Rondo and Patsy Richart of Forrest City; a son, Harvey Oxner of Hot Springs; three sisters, Virginia Russell of Helena, Herschell Allen and Sugar Jones, both of Marianna; two brothers, Roland Smith and Wayne Smith both of Marianna; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Oxner were held graveside, today, Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Marianna Memorial Park with Rev. Austin Hamilton officiating under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna.
