Porter's captures Class E state title

Porter's of Searcy, rolled undefeated through the Men's Class E state slow-pitch softball tournament played over the weekend at the Forrest City Sports Complex.

Porter's defeated Lonoke's Mr. Fish team in the finals played Sunday afternoon.

Sanyo, the only Forrest City team represented in the 22-team bracket finished 0-2, losing to White's Construction from Lepanto and Illustrated Sportswear from Conway.

The West Memphis Legends finished third.

The top teams may advance to the regionals, to be played in Lafayette, La., Aug. 18-19.


Football drills begin Wednesday for Blue, White junior high teams

The Forrest City Junior High Blue and White Mustang football teams will begin the first week of football practice next week.

Equipment will be handed out Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 8 until 11:30 a.m. at the Junior High Fieldhouse, according to the coaching staffs.

Summer drills will begin Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 9 a.m.

No student will be allowed to take part in the drills without a physical examination.


Practice begins

While the Forrest City junior high football coaches were handing out equipment Monday morning the senior high Mustangs were putting in their first full practice in shorts and helmets. Palestine-Wheatley and Hughes opened summer drills today.
