The 1985 Forrest City Mustang football team, which rolled to an undefeated season and the state's No. 1 ranking, will be honored during halftime of Forrest City's season-opening game against Osceola on Friday, Aug. 31.

The game and the halftime ceremonies will be held at Sam Smith Stadium.

Richard Benson is heading up the activities for the 1985 Mustang reunion and says that while he has been able to contact several of the players, there are many who may not know about the event.

"We would like to have as many of the players from that team with us as possible," Benson said.

The '85 team will be with the 2001 Mustangs for the pregame meal at the high school cafeteria and will then tour the new athletic fieldhouse.

Clinton Gore, who coached the 1985 team, is now the head coach of the Osceola Seminoles, Forrest City's opening game opponent this year.

All players from the 1985 team, who wish to participate in the on-field ceremony, are encouraged to contact Benson at 633-1252.
