Mr. Harold Dean Huber of Forrest City died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at his home. He was 80.
Mr. Huber was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Harold A. Huber and Iva Riggins Huber.
He was an Elder of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was also a member of the church men's organization, the Joy Sunday School Class and a Bible study group. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a survivor of the attacks on Hickam Field and Pearl Harbor. He was retired from 36 years in educational administration and teaching in Illinois and Arkansas.
Mr. Huber was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, 5th and 454th Bombardment Groups Association and the State Teachers and University Retirement Associations in Illinois. During his life in Forrest City, Mr. Huber was a member of the Kiwanis Club and assisted in the 1990 St. Francis County Cancer Society Business Crusade.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edith E. Craig.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Richmond of the home; a son, Stanley Dean Huber of Los Gatos, Calif.; a daughter, Janet Denise Huber of Champaign, Ill., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bob Sohn officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Ill., at a later date.
Mr. Leroy Jackson Sr., age 78, of Widener, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Jackson was born June 8, 1923, in Jackson Parish, La. He was a retired supervisor for the federal government, and an Air Force veteran.
He is survived by four sons, Leroy Jackson Jr., of Widener, Michael Jackson of Richmond, Calif., Leonard Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Don Rideau of Vaca Ville, Calif.; four daughters, Lynette Jackson and Janet Jackson, both of Richmond, Calif., Betty Jean Ross of Detroit and Peggy Stewart of Ballego, Calif.; a brother, Alson E. Jackson of Daly City, Calif., three sisters, Audry Moore of Chicago and Sally Ann Jackson and Alice Leonard, both of Hodge, La.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Marland Brown officiating.
Mr. Alsie "Tiny" Jolly of Forrest City died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Baptist Hospital East. He was 78.
Mr. Jolly was born July 6, 1923, in Forrest City, the son of Julious H. Jolly and Ressie Mae Vaughn. He lived in Forrest City all of his life. He worked for the Wholesale Produce Company, was a World War II veteran and a member of the Caldwell Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Jolly of Forrest City; a son, Sandy Jolly, of Aubrey; a sister, Marie Evans of Texas and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.E. Hughes and Rev. Myron Shaw officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mildred Walker Sikes, age 99, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Sikes was born Aug. 23, 1902, in Forrest City, the daughter of George P. Walker Sr., and Alice Bramell Walker. She lived in Forrest City all of her life, was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sikes married John Preston Sikes, and he preceded her in death in 1983.
She is survived by a nephew, Collie Walker of Forrest City; two sisters-in-law, Lois Walker and Flora Cox, both of Forrest City and several other nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Sikes will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at the City Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Dean Smith, age 74, of Olive Branch, Miss., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in Southhaven, Miss.
Mr. Smith was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Kinton, the son of Alvin Smith and Mildred Johnson Smith. He lived in Palestine most of his life and was retired from Yale Industries.
Mr. Smith married Catherine S. Smith, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Smith is survived by one sister, Johnnie Turner of Millington, Tenn., and two brothers, Marvin Smith of Hughes and Paul Smith of Olive Branch, Miss.
Visitation will be tonight, Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the Bell Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
