Mr. Evan Dean "Sambo" Hughes, age 60, of Searcy, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at White County Hospital in Searcy.
Mr. Hughes was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Caldwell, and was the son of Elmer Hughes and Modena Clark Hughes. He lived in St. Francis County most of his life until moving to Searcy in 1991. Mr. Hughes was a former law enforcement officer for the St. Francis County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Hughes married Dora Flanagin in 1985, and she survives him along with one son, Clark Hughes of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter Deana Cranor of Forrest City of Forrest City; one brother, John Hughes of Caldwell; two sisters, Mildred Harp of Forrest City, and Marilyn Jones of Clarendon; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Hughes were held Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at 10 a.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Algie "Tiny" Jolly, age 78, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. Jolly was born July 6, 1923, in Forrest City, and was the son of Julious H. Jolly and Ressie Mae Vaughn. He lived in Forrest City all of his life and was a retired owner of a wholesale produce company, was a World War II veteran, and a member of the Caldwell Baptist Church.
Mr. Jolly was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Jolly and Julious Jolly; and one sister, Burla Mae Slizys.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Jolly of Forrest City; one son, Sandy Jolly of Aubrey; one sister, Marie Evans of Texas; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Jolly were held Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home, with Rev. J.E. Hughes and Rev. Myron Shaw officiating the service. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Forrest City, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
