Bobby Neal Evans

Mr. Bobby Neal Evans, age 61, of Byhalia, Miss., died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.

Mr. Evans, was a retired U.S. Mail truck driver and spent 21 years at J.E. Phillips and Sons.

He is survived by his wife, Bettye L. Evans of Byhalia; two step-daughters, Pam Riggs of Forrest City and Patricia Cooney of Byhalia; a sister, Peggy Powell of Lansing, Ill.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Moreland Odom.

Funeral services for Mr. Evans were held today, Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Miss. Burial followed at Byhalia Cemetery under the direction of Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch, Miss.


Howard Ashel Halbert

Mr. Howard Ashel Halbert, age 89, of Palestine, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the Hot Springs County Medical Center in Malvern.

Mr. Halbert, born March 1, 1911, in Palestine, was the son of Geroge Halbert and Ada Sulcer Halbert. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.

In 1936 Mr. Halbert married Beatrice Phillips and she survives him along with three daughters, Ada Dittaugh of Malvern, Barbara White of Palestine and Brenda White of Oxford, Miss.; two brothers, Gazola Halbert of Palestine and Bennett Halbert of Alabama; a sister, Alice Miles of Mississippi; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Halbert will be Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Halbert will be Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


Marian H. Brown Martin

Mrs. Marian H. Brown Martin, age 77, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Martin, born Dec. 24, 1923, in Tennessee, was a retired nurse and a member of the Pentecost Church in Wynne.

In 1947 Mrs. Martin married Jack L. Martin and he survives her along with a daughter; Jackie Luker of Butte Rose, La.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Martin and a daughter, Sandra Martin.

A graveside service for Mrs. Martin was held today, Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Forrest Park Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
