Junior High teams return to action tonight

Both the Forrest City Blue and White Mustang junior high basketball programs will return to the court tonight.

The White Mustangs will host Blytheville West tonight in a two-game set to be played at Mustang Arena.

The varsity girls will tip at 5 p.m. and the varsity boys will follow at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The White Mustangs are 3-7 for the year and the White Lady Mustangs are 1-10. Both lost to Blytheville West in the Nov. 6 opener.

The Blue Mustangs will be on the road, playing a three-game set at West Memphis East, beginning at 5 p.m. with the JV girls' game.

The Blue Mustangs are 2-8 for the year while the Blue Lady Mustangs are 6-5 overall with a three-game winning streak.

Both suffered losses to East back on Nov. 6.


Conference games begin

The Forrest City Mustangs and Lady Mustangs will open AAAAA-East Conference play Friday, Jan. 5, at Sylvan Hills. The Mustangs (3-6) last played Dec. 22, when they defeated West Helena 72-60 behind 21 points from James Johnson, 22 points from Daffy Norment and 10 points from Jason Jones. The Lady Mustangs are 4-3 for the year.


Junior District at FCity

The AAAAA-East Junior High District Basketball Tournament will be played at Forrest City's Mustang Arena, beginning Monday, Feb. 12 and will run through Saturday, Feb. 17. Forrest City will have four teams in the district bracket, the Blue and White Mustangs and the Blue and White Lady Mustangs.


Lady Patriots ranked first in AA

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots have risen to the top of Class AA basketball. The Lady Patriots (12-1) are ranked first in Class AA according to this week's state polls. Two-time defending Class AA state champion Greenland is ranked second while Marmaduke is ranked third.
