Mrs. Linda Sue Dennis, aged 53, of Palestine, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
She was born Aug. 20, 1947, in Marmaduke, the daughter of Brouse Fry and Anna Pauline Saylor Fry. She made her home in the Palestine area most of her life, was a housewife and a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.
In 1965 she married Wayne Dennis, who survives her. Mrs. Dennis is also survied by a daughter, Shelly Thrash of Palestine, three sisters, Brouseline Perry of Oceanside, Calif., Vickie Whittenton of Moore, Okla. and Elezebeth Mathes of Palestine; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Angelina Dawn Swiney, in 1992 and a brother, Richard Paul Fry in 1994.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Stevens Funeral Home, with Bro. Andy Cates officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Cemetery.
Mrs. Emogene "Jean" Nuckolls, aged 75, of Bull Shoals and formerly of Forrest City, died Monday July 2, 2001, at her home.
She was born May 3, 1926, in Forrest City, the daughter of the late Revel and Ora Gwathney Gregory. She was a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church, the Art Club and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husand, A.D. Nuckolls; a daughter, Rita Darling of Bull Shoals; one grandchild and one great grandchild.
Visitation was from noon until 2 p.m. today, Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gary Goldman and Rev. Dr. Fred Taylor officiating with Roller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial followed in Baxter Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks or the American Diabetes Foundation.
Mrs. Lenora Roberts, age 81, of Madison, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Roberts, a homemaker, was a member of Spritual Church #24 in Widener. She is survived by two daughters, Pearlie Carson and Deliah Harris, both of Pontiac, Mich.; four sons, Nathenial Roberts, Anthony Roberts and A.D. Roberts, all of Pontiac, Mich. and Frank Roberts of Madison; 76 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; 80 great-great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Roberts will be held Friday, July 6, 2001, from noon to 5 p.m. at Kennedy Chapel in Forrest City. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 7, 2001, 12:30 p.m. at Salem M.B. Church with Rev. Chester Rolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Mr. Ralph Leonard Sampley, age 80, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Sampley, born July 26, 1920, in Forrest City, was the son of D.F. Sampley and Eunice Roberts Sampley. He served as a Master Sergeant in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater where he received the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals. He was a local merchant and a member of the First Baptist Church and had been a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees and the Masons.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Sampley; three daughters, Kay Murry and Debbie Montgomery, both of Forrest City, and Anita Fletcher of Fayetteville; two sisters, Dora Lee Smith of Forrest City and Willene Ramsey of Memphis and five grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Sampley were held today, Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. Danny Haflich officiating under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Erma Virgie Thomas, aged 93, of Russellville and formerly of Pine Tree, died Monday, July 2, 2001.
She was born March 7, 1908, in Pine Tree, the daughter of Arthur Sulcer and Nettie Logan Sulcer. She made her home in the Pine Tree area near Forrest City most of her life. She was a housewife and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
In 1924, she married Wesley Thomas, who preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by a sister, Edith Ellis of Pine Tree, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Thomas, in 1968.
Graveside services were held today, Thursday, July 5, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Barnishaw Cemetery in Pine Tree, with Bro. Rodney Etheridge officiating under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
