White Hall walked away with the 13-year-old District 7 Babe Ruth Tournament championship Monday night by putting down previously undefeated Pine Bluff twice at the Sports Complex.

White Hall, which lost to Pine Bluff 14-9 in Saturday's winner's semifinal, worked their way back to the championship game by defeating Wynne 18-3 Sunday afternoon.

White Hall would have to win twice Monday to capture the district title.

They did just that, downing Pine Bluff 10-5 in the first game and winning 10-7 in the "if" game.

In both games, White Hall put together big single innings to do most of the damage.

In the first game, trailing 2-1, White Hall scored eight times in the bottom of the third inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and connecting for seven hits.

In the second game, White Hall trailed 7-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. They plated seven runs using two hits and seven walks to take the win and the title.

After trying all weekend, the Forrest City American Legion teams finally got to play Monday night.

On Saturday, the Forrest City A squad picked up two forfeit wins when Cabot failed to show up for a scheduled doubleheader at the Sports Complex.

"We don't know why they didn't come," said Forrest City Coach Jason Long. "They never showed and they didn't call."

Then Wynne cancelled a scheduled A-AAA doubleheader on Sunday.

Monday night, Batesville did make the trip and then made quick work by taking a 14-5 win over the A squad and then putting away the AAA squad 14-2 in the nightcap.

Forrest City got single runs in the first inning when Mark Lewis and Marcus Hancock each scored but the rest of the game belonged to Batesville, who scored four times in the first inning, five times in the third and four times in the fifth.

Lewis pitched the complete game for Forrest City.

It was much the same in the first game when Batesville put together a five-run, third inning to erase a 3-2 Forrest City lead.

Batesville added four runs in the fourth to lead 11-3.

Logan Knight, Colby McKennon, Hancock, Dustin Gore and Adam Kennedy scored single runs for Forrest City.

Forrest City will host Searcy today at the Sports Complex for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Forrest City A squad will open district tournament play on Thursday, July 12, at Paragould.
