The Forrest City 'A' American Legion team picked up their fourth win of the year Wednesday night by taking down Newport 'A' 8-5 at the Sports Complex.
The second game of the A/AAA twinbill went to Newport.
Marcus Hancock went the distance for Forrest City scattering 11 Newport hits. He struck out eight along the way.
Newport scored twice in the top of the first inning to lead 2-0. Forrest City plated three runs in the bottom of the second when Hancock and Adam Roberts both singled and scored and Logan Knight walked and scored for a 3-2 lead.
Newport regained a 5-3 lead in the top of the third with three runs before Forrest City got within one run in the bottom of the inning when Brad Taylor walked and scored on Hancock's RBI single.
The rest of the scoring belonged to Forrest City.
Brandon Cochran added a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning and Hancock, Roberts and Knight each scored for the second time in the bottom of the fifth inning to set the final.
Forrest City banged out eight hits with Hancock getting half of that total with four singles.
Newport took the AAA contest 14-8, scoring four times in the first inning, three times in the fourth and five times in the sixth.
Mark Lewis and Cochran each scored twice for Forrest City while Hancock, Taylor, Knight and Roberts each added single runs.
Forrest City used three pitchers behind Dustin Gore, who started and lasted three innings.
The Forrest City-Wynne game scheduled for tonight at Wynne has been cancelled.
Forrest City will host Cabot for an 'A' doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. on Field No. 2.

It's down to just one game. The girls' 10-under slow pitch league will end their regular season Friday night at the Sports Complex.
For league champion Sanyo, it will be a chance to put a cap on, what has been so far, a perfect season.
Sanyo, 17-0, will take on Title Company Friday night and will be looking for their 18th consecutive victory.
Tuesday night, Sanyo downed Dr. Schwartz 15-4.
Chantal Driver and Amber Jones led Sanyo by scoring three runs each. Charneise Turner, Erin Marlowe and Tikeyah Holloway scored two runs each.
Schwartz got runs from Savannah Ferguson, Cara McCollum and Danielle McKnight.
Schwartz slips to 13-4 and into a tie for second place in the league standings with Title Company, an 11-10 winner Tuesday night over Food Giant.
A Sanyo win over Title Company Friday would give Dr. Schwartz second place in the final league standings, provided they can get past True Value in their Friday night final.
Title Company got two runs each from Christy Tittle and Meghan Clark in their win over Food Giant. Ashtin Steward, Kimeshia Norris, Brenda Sheldon, Cindy Sheldon, Katie Davis, Ashley Steward and Loretta Wilburn scored single runs.
Markita Wade and Kim Shafer scored twice to lead Food Giant while Deidra White, Megan White, Raven Harrell and Jasmine Rucker added single runs.
Forrest City Bank, 15-5 winners over True Value Tuesday, has a shot to finish fourth in the league.
Forrest City Bank plated five runs in each of the three innings they batted.
Robin Steward led FCBank by scoring three runs. Ashley Blaylock, Jordan Pentecost and Miranda Sims scored two runs each.
Cassie Holloway and Shanneka Barber scored two runs each for True Value.
Forrest City Bank stands at 9-7-1 for the year and will face Steven's Funeral Home Friday.
Steven's picked up a win on Tuesday, defeating Walker Insurance 6-3 to improve to 5-11 for the year.
Steven's scored five times in the first inning on their way to the win.
Taylor Billingsley scored twice while Caitlan Peterson, Kayla Johnson, Mary Hodges and Alexandra Dooley scored one run each.
Walker got single runs from Megan Hastings, Sydney Mitchell and Janelle Crawford.
In Tuesday's final game, Southern Furniture was awarded a forfeit win over Mom's.
The Forrest City 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars open district tournament play today at Marion.
Forrest City will face West Helena at 6 p.m. at John Robbins Field. A win will put Forrest City against the Pine Bluff/Whitehall winner Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Mark Sanders, who coached Fred's to an undefeated 12-0 season and the Junior Babe Ruth League title, will be the team's head coach and brings seven of his players with him to the all-star team.
"We have been able to practice about six times so far," Sanders said.
Sanders said he was unsure as to who his starting pitcher would be.
"We have some sore arms but I'm leaning toward either Fred Walker or Jermaine Curne," Sanders said.
The 15-year-old All-Star team is made up of Kevin Padilla, Fred Walker, Brad Moore, Milton Joyner, Terrence Ware, Ramsey Gibson and Justin McKissick, all from Fred's; Patrick Vondran from Hunton's, Jamar Williams and Devin McLaurin, from Planter's Bank; Jimmy Aldridge and Jeremy Holmes from Houser's and Jermaine Curne and Princeton Davis from Ridout.
Sanders is being assisted by coach Robert Williams.
The Forrest City 13-year-old All-Stars open play tonight at the Babe Ruth District Tournament at the Sports Complex.
Forrest City will play Pine Bluff on Field 8, at 8:30 p.m. tonight. West Memphis and Whitehall open tournament play at 6 p.m.
A win brings the team back Saturday at 9 a.m. A first-round loss puts the team into Saturday's 11:30 a.m. loser's bracket game.
The team is being coached by Darry Banks and Dexter Freeman.
