Sanyo continues streak in 10-under girls league

16-under league will play make up games tonight

Sanyo won their 10th consecutive game of the season Friday night in girls' 10-under slow pitch softball and they did it impressively, rolling past Walker Insurance 21-3, to stay unbeaten for the year.

In other games played Friday, Dr. Schwartz improved to 7-3 for the year with a 7-2 win over Mom's and moved into second place in the league standings, tying Title Company (7-3) who lost to True Value 7-5.

Forrest City Bank romped past Southern Furniture 14-4 to improve to 5-5 for the year and Steven's won their fourth straight game, taking an 11-6 win over Food Giant.

Steven's is 4-5 for the year.

12-Under League

There were no changes in the girls' 12-under fast pitch league Friday.

League leader Times-Herald, unbeaten on the year at 8-0, defeated Giffin's Grins 12-4 and Crowley's evened their season mark at 4-4 with a 15-13 win over Debbie's Flowers.

16-Under League

In the girls' 16-under fast pitch league, Dr. St. John picked up another win to stay perfect at 8-0 for the year by defeating Sanyo 10-7.

Sanyo slips to 3-5 for the year.

Boar's Head got past Clay Funeral Home 13-7 and Bonanza improved to 4-5 with a 14-5 win over Food Giant.

The 16-under league will be in action tonight when they play the make-up games from the May 11 rain out date.

It will be the same pairings as Friday with Bonanza vs Food Giant; Clay vs Boar's Head and Sanyo against St. John.

All three games begin at 6 p.m. on Fields 1, 3 and 4.


Bonanza hands Rotary Club another loss; M&T stays unbeaten

Bonanza handed Rotary Club their third straight loss Friday night, winning 9-7 in Bambino (11-12) League action at the Sports Complex.

Both teams stand at 5-4 for the year.

In other league games, Cochran Auto pushed their record to 8-1 and kept a strangle-hold on first place by turning back POPS 10-3.

Taylor Glass handed Vaccaro Lumber a 7-3 loss and Hess Shoes ended a four-game slide by defeating Taco Bell 17-5.

The Bambino (9-10) League will try once again tonight to return to action. The league has suffered three straight rain out dates and have not played since May 24.

Minor League

In the Minor League (pitching machine) M&T Paving stayed unbeaten and moved a little closer to catching Taylor-Casbeer by running all over Farm Bureau 28-1.

M&T stands at 6-0 for the year while Taylor-Casbeer is 8-0 for the year.

The Lion's Club improved to 5-1 by taking a 13-4 win over Joey's Muffler.

League play continues tonight with Mr. T taking on Taylor-Casbeer at 6 p.m. and Easley Law taking on Dr. Beasley at 7:30 p.m.

The Minor League will play their make up games on Saturday, June 16, beginning at 8 a.m.


Forrest City athletic physicals set for July; weight room to open Thursday

Forrest City will hold physical examinations on Wednesday, July 25, for all male and female junior and senior high students who will be participating in athletics for the 2001-02 school year. The physicals will be held at Mustang Arena at 9 a.m.

The exams will also be given on Saturday, July 28, at 9 a.m., at the office of Dr. Curtis Patton. Students cam pick up the forms needed for the physicals from any Forrest City coach.

Also, the wight room for the Blue Junior High Mustangs will open Thursday, June 14, from 1 until 4 p.m., on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays.


Basketball camp this week

Forrest City Basketball Coach Sue Jayroe is conducting this week's elementary basketball camp for fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. The camp started this morning and will continue through Thursday. The elementary girls are attending from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and the elementary boys will attend from 12 noon until 3 p.m. Forrest City Coach Dwight Lofton will conduct the boys camp.
