Title Company hands Mulay first loss, C.R. Sand first place

Title Company handed Mulay its first loss of the year Wednesday night in Bambino (9-10) League and in the process handed C.R. Sand first place.

Sand and Mulay were both unbeaten going into Wednesday's round of make up games. C.R. Sand defeated Farm Credit 15-3 to improve to 6-0 for the year while Mulay falls to 5-1.

The two teams have not faced each other yet this year. Their head-to-head matchup, originally scheduled for May 21, was rained out. It will be played Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Both teams are scheduled to return to regular season action tonight, weather permitting.

In other games played Wednesday, Food Giant stayed in third place in the league by turning back Pearson Insurance 11-5.

Food Giant moves to 4-2 for the year.

Napa stayed in fourth place by defeating McDonald's 18-4.

Title Company scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 14-6 Mulay lead.

Both teams were locked in a 3-3 tie after three innings. Mulay plated seven runs in the fourth inning to lead 10-3 and Title Company scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 10-6.

Mulay plated four more runs in the fifth to lead 14-6.

John Jones led Mulay by scoring three times while Kameron Green, Jim Bailey and James Hughes scored two runs each. Quintarius Powell, Theodis Goodwin, Jeffrey Siler, Josh McKinney and Logan added single runs.

Title Company got three runs each from Mark Machen and Chris Hunter while Josh Davis and brothers, Steven and Jeffery Johnson scored two runs each. Turner Norsworthy, Shane Gracey and Ronald Williams added single runs.

Napa 18, McDonald's 4

Napa had their way with McDonald's Wednesday night, scoring five runs in the first inning and then exploding for 10 runs in the second inning.

Josh Taylor led Napa by scoring four runs. Jacoby Cooley and Barrett Beshears added three runs each while Kantrell Hines and Evan Daugherty scored two runs each, one of those a home run in the first inning.

Caleb Talley scored two of McDonald's four runs while Hunter McMahand and Cameron Huff scored single runs.

McDonald's started with six players and finished the game with seven.

C.R. Sand 15, Farm Credit 3

C.R. Sand stayed undefeated for the year with a 15-3 win over Farm Credit.

The win coupled with Mulay's loss to Title Company leaves Sand all alone in first place.

Nathan Jefferson hit a pair of home runs and scored three runs while Ashton Hunt hit one homer and scored three times for Sand.

Brent Devazier homered twice and scored twice while Andrew Atkins and Dominique Madden scored twice. D'Andre King, Dylan Rivera and Seth Smith added single runs.

Farm Credit falls to 2-5.

Harrison Hargraves, Michael Tate and KeMario Tucker scored single runs. Tucker hit a home run in the fifth inning.

Food Giant 11, Pearson Ins. 5

Findley Scott Laws hit a lead-off home run in the first inning and scored three runs to help pace Food Giant past Pearson.

Food Giant, playing with just seven players, also got two runs from Daries Banks and single runs from Raymond Patillo, Tevin Hughes, Cody Broussard and Blake Duch.

Pearson got home runs from Jared Northcutt and Jeremy and single runs from Tate Roberts, Chance Pearson and Eli Wall.


Ricemen win streak at 7 after sweep over FCity 'A'

Jonesboro's A Ricemen pushed their winning streak to seven games Wednesday night by sweeping Forrest City in an 'A' doubleheader at the Sports Complex.

Jonesboro won 10-0 in the first game and 11-4 in the nightcap.

Forrest City falls to 1-7 for the year.

Jonesboro pitcher Cory Chastain no-hit Forrest City in the first game and improves to 2-1 for the year.

Chastain struck out seven and walked two in five innings and ended the game under the 10-run rule after five innings.

On Tuesday, Paragould Dr. Pepper oustscored Forrest City 22-1 in taking an A-AAA doubleheader at the Sports Complex.

Dr Pepper blasted Forrest City's AAA club 10-0 behind the arm and bat of Michael Hoggard.

In the A opener, Paragould jumped on top 9-0 and cruised to a 12-1, five-inning decision.

Hoggard pitched three shutout innings to gain the win and helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Paragould's A squad improved to 10-2 and will face Jonesboro in the opener of the Dr Pepper Classic today at noon.

The tournament field includes both Paragould teams, Jacksonville, Batesville, Jonesboro (AAA and A), Sheridan, Newport and two Missouri teams -- Poplar Bluff and Dunklin County.

The teams will be separated into two pools and the top two teams in each pool will play for the championship Sunday.

Forrest City will host Searcy Friday in another A doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. and then will host Blytheville on Saturday for an A-AAA doubleheader.


Cole signs with UAPB

Seccer Cole Jr. signed a letter-of-intent to play college tennis at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Wednesday. Cole, 17, has been a member of the Forrest City Mustang tennis team for the past three seasons. He graduated from FCHS in May. At UAPB Cole will compete in both singles and doubles matches. Cole is the son of Seccer Cole Sr. and Sandy Cole Cole said UAPB was his first choice. He plans to major in physical education.


Girls' 12-under league will play make up games tonight at the complex

Make up games will continue tonight at the Sports Complex when the girls' 12-under fast pitch softball league will play their rain out games from Friday, May 11.

League leader Times-Herald will play Crowley's Ridge at 6 p.m. on Field 1 while Debbie's Flowers will take on Children's Clinic at 6 p.m., on Field 3. League play resumes Friday night.
