Just when Forrest City Coach Jason Long thought his American Legion team might be turning the corner, they met up with Wynne.
Monday, Forrest City split a doubleheader against Mountain Home, traditionally one of the state's stronger Legion programs.
Wednesday, at the Sports Complex, Forrest City dropped an A-AAA twinbill to Wynne, losing 7-0 and 14-5.
"We had been playing a lot better over the past few games," Long said. "But against Wynne, we didn't do much right at all. I feel like we took a couple of steps back."
Among the highlights was Clyde Kennedy's two-RBI triple in the fourth inning of the second game that scored Charles Gaines and Adam Roberts in the AAA squad's 14-5 loss.
"Clyde came out and had probably his best game of the season for us last night," Long said.
Forrest City trailed 7-5 before Wynne broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Marcus Hancock, who started for Forrest City, lasted five innings before giving way to Colby McKennon.
Mark Lewis scored twice for Forrest City while Gaines, Roberts and Chris Autry scored single runs.
In the A game, Forrest City managed just six hits in the 7-0 set back.
Hancock had two of those while McKennon, Roberts, Kennedy and Josh Wilson had one hit each.
Dustin Gore pitched the complete game and gave up all seven Wynne runs on 10 hits and four walks. Gore struck out nine along the way.
Against Mountain Home, Forrest City's A team earned the split winning the first game 9-7 and losing the second 18-7.
In the opener, Kennedy, Gaines, Brandon Cochran, Hancock, Mckennon, Roberts and Casiday Hankins each scored.
McKennon and Hancock combined from the mound.
Mountain Home scored nine runs in the sixth inning of the second game to break open what had been a 9-7 game on their way to the 18-7 victory.
Brad Taylor started and pitched four innings for Forrest City before giving way to Hancock.
Forrest City used four different pitchers in the Mountain Home sixth inning -- Hankins, McKennon, Gore and Adam Kennedy, 13-year-old brother of Clyde.
Forrest City will host Stuttgart Friday for another A-AAA doubleheader at the Sports Complex.
After taking the weekend off, Forrest City travels to Newport on Monday for an A-AAA twinbill.
