Food Giant runs win streak to 11

After losing back-to-back games to start the Bambino (9-10) League season, Food Giant has won 11 straight games and is sitting in first place.

Food Giant earned their 11th consecutive win of the year Monday night by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Title Company 9-8.

Trailing 8-7 going into the last at-bat, Rich Jayroe blooped a single just over third base to lead off and scored on a line shot RBI single by Zach Hoskins to tie the game at 8-8.

Two outs later, Hoskins scored the game-winning run on an RBI hit by Findley Scott Laws.

Food Giant improves to 11-2, one game ahead of C.R. Sand, a team that led the league until last week. Sand is 10-2 for the year.

The league has four playing dates left on the season schedule.

Title Company opened a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Turner Norsworthy singled and scored the first of his three runs for the game.

Food Giant answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning when Laws, Daries Banks and Raymond Patillo each scored. Patillo had the big hit of the inning, a two-RBI double.

Food Giant added a run in the second to lead 4-1 before Title Company plated five runs in the top of the third to regain a 6-4 lead.

Food Giant tied the game at 6-6 with two runs in the home half of the inning and Title Company broke the tie with two runs in the top of the fourth to lead 8-6.

Tevin Hughes hit a solo home run for Food Giant in the fifth to get his team within one run at 8-7.

Patillo pitched the complete game to get the win for Food Giant holding Title Company to the eight runs on seven hits.

Mark Machen took the loss, going the distance for Title Company.

Patillo and Banks scored two runs each for Food Giant.

Napa 15, Pearson Ins. 6

Josh Taylor and Barrett Beshears scored three runs each Monday as Napa pounded Pearson Insurance 15-6.

Beshears doubled twice and homered in the win.

Caleb Davidson and Evan Daugherty scored two runs each while Jacoby Cooley, Thurlo Ward and Nick Willis scored single runs.

Jared Northcutt, William Burks, Chris Barton, Bakari Norman, Brandon Rickard and Eli Wall each scored for Pearson.

C.R. Sand 8, Mulay 1

C.R. Sand put down Mulay 8-1 Monday to improve to 10-2 for the year, which keeps the team in second place in the league standings.

C.R. Sand broke a 1-1 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Nathan Jefferson scored two of Sand's eight runs while Barrett Astin, Seth Smith, Brent Devazier, Andrew Atkins, James Kennedy and Dylan Rivera scored single runs.

Devazier homered in the game and picked up the pitching victory as well.

Bruce Heard scored Mulay's only run.

In the only other scheduled game Monday, Sanyo was awarded a forfeit win over Farm Credit.


Bambino All-Stars open district play Thursday at FC

The Forrest City 10-year-old Bambino All Stars will open play Thursday in the District 7 Cal Ripken Tournament which will be played at the Forrest City Sports Complex.

Forrest City will play Pine Bluff at 8 p.m. The winner advances to Friday night's second-round game at 8 p.m.

The tournament will conclude on Monday, July 2.

The Forrest City All-Stars are being coached by Terry Laws, Ronnie Beshears and Jim Machen.

The team is comprised of Findley Scott Laws, Raymond Patillo and Justin Cook, all from Food Giant; Nathan Jefferson and Seth Smith, from C.R. Sand; Mark Machen from Title Company; Cordarius Brown, Sanyo; Chris Smith from Farm Credit; Chance Pearson and Jared Northcutt from Pearson Insurance; Hunter McMahand from McDonald's; Barrett Beshears and Evan Daugherty from Napa; and Quintarius Powell from Mulay.

The 12-year-old District 7 Tournament will be played in Clarendon and begins Thursday.


Freeman's edges Planter's Bank 11-10

Freeman's edged Planter's Bank 11-10 Monday night in Junior Babe Ruth action at the Sports Complex.

Planter's led 10-8 going into the bottom of the sixth inning where Freeman's was able to push three runs across the plate to get the win.

The win leaves Freeman's at 3-7 for the year while Planter's slips to 8-2 but remains in second place in the league standings.

Bryant Brown and Dexter Freeman scored three runs for the winners while Dexery Powell and Stephon Weaver scored two runs each.

Tyler Spencer led Planter's Bank by scoring three runs and got help from teammates Thomas Brown, Chris Haggans and Kyle Smith, who scored two runs each.

The other two Junior Babe Ruth games were forfeits.

Houser's was awarded the forfeit win over Ridout while the VIP's got the forfeit win over Hunton Office.

League leader Fred's was idle Monday.

The league will play make up games from last week on Thursday night.


Sanyo rolls to 15-0; Title Co. back in second

10-under district softball tournament begins Friday at Marion

Sanyo stayed unbeaten Monday in girls' 10-under slow pitch softball by putting away Southern Furniture 13-0 in make up games played at the Sports Complex.

Sanyo stands at 15-0 for the year.

In the only other game Monday, Title Company improved to 12-3 for the year by defeating Walker Insurance 11-4.

Sanyo got three runs each from Alondra Pritchard and Erin Marlowe and two runs from Amber Jones and Tikeyah Holloway.

Southern Furniture managed just five base runners in the game.

The win puts Title Company back into a tie for second place in the league with Dr. Schwartz.

The league has three regular season games remaining to be played.

Both teams will compete in the District 7 Softball Tournament, which begins Friday at Marion.

Sanyo will open district play friday at 7 p.m. when they take on West Helena Winner's Circle. A victory puts Sanyo against Wynne IGA Saturday at 9 a.m.

Dr. Schwartz plays at 8 p.m. Friday against Wynne's Servco. A victory by Schwartz will put the team against West Memphis Jett Fast Saturday at 10 a.m.

In other first round games, the Marion swingers take on Wynne Producers friday at 9 p.m. and First National Bank of Wynne battles West Helena Allied Graphics at 10 p.m. Friday.

Friday's games will be played at the existing complex located across the street from the Marion High School football stadium. Saturday's games will be played at the new complex located on Complex Road.


Elite, Poison deadlocked in men's league

Chism and Odd Sox tied for first place

Elite Security and Poison both stayed unbeaten in the adult men's softball league Monday night.

Elite Security, formerly Mohr Sports, defeated Food Giant 20-13 to improve to 7-0 for the season.

Food Giant falls to 2-4.

Poison put down the Forrest City Young Guns 17-7 and remains in a tie for first place with Elite.

In other games played Monday, Sanyo improved to 5-1 for the year with an 11-1 win over Kerby's. Patton and Taylor knocked off Miller Insurance 18-9 and S.S.A. defeated Boar's Head 20-10.

In adult women's action, Odd Sox remained a tie for first place with Chism Concrete by defeating Super Center.

Chism, the league's defending champions, downed Purple Haze.

In the final game of the night, Clark Appraisals moved to 3-4 for the year with a win over Whatever, formerly First National Bank.

Both the Odd Sox and Chism are 6-1 in league play while Purple Haze is 5-2 and in second place.

The men and women's leagues will resume play on Thursday night.


Bambino League teams will play make up games tonight

The Bambino (11-12) League will play make up games tonight beginning at 6 p.m.

The rain out games, from May 11, have Taylor Glass against Vaccaro Lumber on Field 5 and Hess Shoes taking on Taco Bell on Field 6 at 6 p.m.

Rotary will take on Bonanza and POPS will battle Cochran Auto at 7:30 p.m.

Tonight's games will bring regular season league play to a close.

Cochran Auto won the league championship.

The 11-year-old Forrest City All-Stars will advance firectly to the Cal Ripken State Tournament, to be played at Jacksonville, July 13.
