Charity golf tourney shines in FC

Sunny skies and mild temperatures made Monday an enjoyable day to be on the golf course.

Thirty-three teams took advantage at the annual Forrest City Grocery Charity Golf Tournament played at Forrest City Country Club.

Last year's event was cut short due to heavy rains.

The annual tournament raises money for the Forrest City Education Foundation.

Forrest City Grocery's Danny Tate said today the tournament raised close to $240,000.

University of Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles, University of Memphis Basketball Coach John Calipari and golfing pro Duffy Waldoff were among the celebrities invited to this year's event.

Long-time Memphis television and radio personality, George Klein who appeared in several movies with Elvis Presley, was also on hand.

Klein presently works with the Horseshoe Casino/Hotel chain.

Waldoff didn't play in the tournament, but did give a hitting demonstration prior to the start of the tournament and offered insight as to what golfers usually think about as they are preparing to hit the ball.

Calipari was attending the tournament for the second straight year.
