Juanita Ferguson

Mrs. Juanita Ferguson, age 84, of Forrest City, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Crestpark Nursing Home.

Mrs. Ferguson was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Memphis, Tenn. She was the daughter of Will Fisher and Sue Whittington Fisher. Mrs. Ferguson made Forrest City her home all of her life where she was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was married to Charles Ferguson in 1935, and he preceded her in death in 1988 along with a daughter, Eva Sue Ferguson in 1952. Mrs. Ferguson is survived by a son, Ronald Ferguson of Memphis and a brother, William Fisher of Little Rock.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ferguson will be Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at 2 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Johnny Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. The family requests memorials be made to the Forrest City Public Library or to the First Baptist Church.


James Albert Hixon

Mr. James Albert Hixon, age 64, of Pine Tree , died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Hixon was born on July 17, 1936, in Pine Tree. He was the son of Albert Noble Hixon and Wilma Edith Chalk Hixon. Mr. Hixon attended school in Pine Tree, Colt and Forrest City and was a farm technician at the University of Arkansas Pine Tree Experiment Station and was a member of Pine Tree Baptist Church.

In 1957, he married Fay Brown Hixon and she survives him along with a son, Chuck Hixon of Wynne; two daughters, Lisa Hill of Pine Tree and LeAnn McMickle of Bono; a brother, Bill Hixon of Wheatley and five granddaughters. Mr. Hixon was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Lorraine Hill.

Funeral services for Mr. Hixon were held Monday, March 12, 2001, at Pine Tree Baptist Church. Bro. Harold McMickle and Bro. Paul Latham officiated the service. Burial followed in Barnishaw Cemetery in Pine Tree with Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne in charge of the arrangements.

The family requests memorials be made to Pine Tree Baptist Church.


Evelyn Elizabeth Brown Towns

Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Brown Towns, age 88, of Forrest City, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Mrs. Towns was born on Nov. 20, 1912, in Brinkley. She was the daughter of Walter Stuart Brown and Elva McLain Brown. Mrs. Towns was a teacher and served as librarian at Forrest City High School. She served in the Garden Club, taught Sunday School, was a member of the First United Methodist Church and organized the first interdenominational Bible study group in Forrest City.

Mrs. Towns married Homer Grant Towns in 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by a son, Dr. Walter Stuart Towns of Boone, N.C.; a sister, Vera Margaret Brown Dinning of Helena and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Towns will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City, with the Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, Forrest Hills United Methodist Church and St. Jude Children's Hospital.
