Mr. Wavie Barnes Sr., age 66, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Barnes was born Feb. 1, 1935 in Forrest City. He was the son of James Barnes and Gertrude Mathis Barnes.
Mr. Barnes is survived by two daughters, Sandra Porter of Rochester, N.Y. and Linda Everett of Little Rock; one son, Wavie Barnes, Jr. of Forrest City; one sister, Essie L. Williams of Forrest City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Barnes will be Tuesday, March 20, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the chapel of Woodhouse Morturary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at 2 p.m., at the Christian Redeeming Spiritual Church with Rev. Theodis Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Morturary.
Mr. Verdil Brickhouse, age 57, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East, in Memphis.
Mr. Brickhouse was born June 6, 1943, in Forrest City. He was the son of James Brickhouse and Izora Pearson Brickhouse.
Mr. Brickhouse is survived by three daughters, Caroly Brickhouse and Margarett Dawson, both of Little Rock and Shellen Brickhouse of Forrest City; one son, Charles Brickhouse of Forrest City; two sisters, Bertha Fields and Airlona Jones, both of Peoria, Ill.; three brothers, James Brickhouse, John Lee Brickhouse and Willie C. Brickhouse, all of Peoria, Ill. and nine grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Brickhouse will be Tuesday, March 20, 2001, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the chapel of Woodhouse Morturary. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at 10 a.m., in Christ Temple Pentecostal Church with the Elder Thomas Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Mrs. Gladys Chase, age 86, of DeValls Bluff, died Sunday, March 18, 2001.
Mrs. Chase was born Nov. 12, 1914, in Prairie County. She lived in the DeValls Bluff area where she was a member of the First Baptist Church in DeValls Bluff. Mrs. Chase also worked at Mercy Hospital in Brinkley as a lab technician and x-ray technician for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Chase, in 1971.
Mrs. Chase is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Hodges and Helen Hodges, both of Forrest City and Darlene Wooten of Rondo; one son, L.D. Chase of Devalls Bluff; four sisters, Ola Mae Dollar and Vida Cook, both of Biscoe, Pauline Hudson of Hazen and Iona Mae Coker of North Little Rock; three brothers, Howard Hall and Jewell Hall, both of Biscoe and Chester Hall of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Chase will be Monday, March 19, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the First Baptist Church in DeValls Bluff with burial to follow in Center Point Cemetery north of Hazen. Westbrook Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Jonathan D. Conder II, age 20, of Palestine, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 in an automobile accident.
He was born march 25, 1980, in Memphis, he was the son of Johnny Conder and Laveta Jones Ross. He made his home in the Palestine and Forrest City area all his life. He was employed with Kroger Grocery in West memphis and was a member of the Church of God.
Mr. Conder married Misty Long in 1999, who survives him, along with a daughter, Hannah Conder; his mother and stepfather Laveta and Charles Ross of Palestine; his father and stepmother, Johnny and Susie Conder of Forrest City; a sister, Hollie Marie Conder of Palestine; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Jones of Hardy; his maternal great-grandmother, Meckie Borden of Palestine; five stepsisters, Samantha Ross of Memhis, Charlie Graddy of Brookland, Joanna Thewatt of Palestine, Jennifer Perry of Forrest City and Dinna Smith of Nunnley, Tenn.; three stepbrothers, David Perry of Nunnley, Tenn. Charlie Ross of Palestien and Mathew Farmer of Wynne.
Visitation will be held beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, March 19 at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Stevens Funeral home, with the Rev. William Witcher officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to the Arkansas School for the Deaf or to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Christine Ellis, age 97, of Brinkley, formerly of Forrest City, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Clay Cliff Funeral Home in Brinkley.
Mrs. Ellis, was born Nov. 14, 1903, to Claude Beard and Della Staton Beard. Mrs. Beard was a member of Pine Tree Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by a son Richard Ellis of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Donna Orbison of Austin, Texas, and Shelby Ray of Brinkley; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Owen Ellis in 1966.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellis were held, today, Monday, March 19, 2001, in the Chapel of Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne at 10 a.m. Burial will followed in Barnishaw Cemetery in Pine Tree under the direction of Kernodle Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Pine Tree Baptist Church or Barnishaw Cemetery.
Mr. Earl Junior Puckett, age 70, of Wynne, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne.
Mr. Puckett was born July 18, 1930, in Tuckerman and was the son of Earl Ditzler and Dora Minnie Voyles Puckett. He was a purchasing agent and chief in maintenance at Cross County Hospital in Wynne for 23 years. Mr. Puckett served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Airforce and retired from the service after 22 years of service. He was a member of Tilton Methodist Church and a member of the Retired Air Force Sergeants Association.
Mr. Puckett married Mary Ruth Slocum Puckett in 1952, and she survives him along with one son, Mark Steven Puckett of Forrest City; one daughter, Karen F. Wolfe of Jonesboro; three brothers, Walburn Puckett of Benton Harbor, Mich., Olaf Puckett of Tahlequah, Okla. and Leland Puckett of Batesville; three sisters, Maurine Nugent of Judsonia, Edna Ford of Hot Springs and Immaneal Nugent of Stuttgart; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orus Puckett and Kenneth Puckett and a sister, Jewelean Lane.
Funeral services for Mr. Puckett were held Monday, March 19, 2001, in Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne with Rev. Carl Lengefeld officiating. Burial services with military honors will be in the Slocum Cemetery at Hickory Ridge. The family request memorials to be made to the Tilton Methodist Church.
