Herman B. Fisher

Mr. Herman B. Fisher, age 76, of Earle, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Fisher, born Aug. 16, 1924, in Hayti, Mo., was the son of Ottis Fisher and Ida Mae Fisher. He was a heavy equipment operator and welder for over 30 years. Mr. Fisher was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and a Purple Heart recipient.

In 1963 Mr. Fisher married Dicie Keys and she survives him along with three sons, Kenny Fisher of Paragould, Tommy Fisher of Dittmer, Mo. and John Fisher of Widener; six daughters, Carolyn Lucas of Desoto, Mo., Rosemary Storz of Hillsboro, Mo., Marylynn Fisher of St. Ann, Mo., Lisa Ragland of Vanndale, Carolyn Woods of Lilbourn, Mo. and Nancy Fisher of Malvern; a brother Ottis Fisher Jr. of Union , Mo.; a sister, Alice Frankum of Sikeston, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Herman Fisher and Wayne Fisher and a brother, Hershel Fisher.

Funeral services for Mr. Fisher were held Monday, March 5, 2001, in the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne. Rev. Valerie Duncan officiated. Burial followed in the Vanndale Cemetery at Vanndale under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.


Lawrence J. McCoy

Mr. Lawrence J. McCoy, age 78, of Marianna, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in his home.

Mr. McCoy, born April 28, 1922, in Monroe, was the son of Will and Josie McCoy. He was a World War II veteran where he served in the Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He retired from Alton Box Board in East Alton, Ill., after 25 years of service and also operated McCoy Tree Service for 26 years. He was a member of Amistad Temple and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite-Bodear Consistory and the Bethel Lodge 406 AF and AM.

In 1992 Mr. McCoy married Lucille Walker Wilson of Marianna and she survives him. He is also survived by three sons, Larry McCoy of Chatham, Ill., Lonnie McCoy of East Alton, Ill., and Bill McCoy of Jerseyville, Ill.; three daughters, Cheryl Pyle of Austin, Texas, Elaine Butkovich of St. Louis, Mo. and Beverly Workman of East Alton, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Newt McCoy, Pete McCoy, Mal McCoy and Tim McCoy and one sister, Mellie Depriest.

Funeral services for Mr. McCoy were held Monday, March 5, 2001, at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto, Ill. Burial followed at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis, Mo., or Hospice Care in Marianna.


Dorothy L. McGraw Owens

Mrs. Dorothy L. McGraw Owens, age 70, of Wynne, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at the Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Owens was born on May 9, 1930 in Dewitt. She was the daughter of Ray Allen and Mary Irene Parker McGraw. Mrs. Owens attended school in Arkansas County. She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Addison Shoe Company of Wynne. Mrs. Owens was a member of the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Wynne and was a member of the Joy Singers. She was married to Mr. Alvie Ray Owens on Oct. 14, 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1998, along with a brother, Bill McGraw.

Mrs. Owens is survived by five sons, Robert Owens of Horn Lake, Miss., Kenneth Owens, Harold Owens and Jon Owens, all of Wynne, and Tim Owens of Marion; one daughter, Mary Owens Yarbrough of Claxton, Ga.; three brothers, Arthur McGraw of Lonoke, Allen McGraw of Sallisaw, Okla. and Parker McGraw of Dewitt; two sisters, Elizabeth Bazarow of Dewitt and Eunice Wilson of Dumas; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Owens were held on Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Wynne, with the Rev. Ray Dean Davis officiating. Burial followed in the McElroy Cemetery with Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

The family requests memorials be made to the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Wynne.
