Still some needs in youth, adult summer programs

The Forrest City youth baseball and softball leagues will kick off their summer schedules the first week in May.

But the leagues still have some holes to fill before the opening date rolls around.

Kenneth Taylor, director of the youth programs, said today that all youth baseball and softball coaches should check in with the recreation department about the upcoming draft, which will be held next week.

Taylor said in addition, head coaches are still needed in the 10-under and 16-under girls softball league as well as in the T-Ball league and in the Junior Babe Ruth league.

"Overall, our youth numbers are up this year," Taylor said. "And we may have enough to create a couple of teams."

Taylor said that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (March 26-28) will be the final three days for late registration for the youth leagues.

An additional $5 charge will be added to the existing registration fees for those youths signing up late.

In the adult men and women's softball leagues, Taylor said there is a need for girls, 17-and-older, to sign up for the adult women's league.

"We only have four teams right now and we would like to increase the league to at least six teams," Taylor said.

Any one interested should sign up by April 10.

The men's league is down a little from a year ago, with just 10 teams registered for the upcoming season.
