Mrs. Mary Louise Carpenter, age 72, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, in her home.
Mrs. Carpenter, born Sept. 25, 1928, was the daughter of Albert Kirkland Sr. and Pollie Elliott Kirkland. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and worked for Western Electric in Chicago prior to retirement.
Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband Frank Carpenter Sr. in 1986 and a son, Rodney Carpenter in 2000. She is survived by a son, Franklin Carpenter of Chicago; five daughters, Doris Dickerson, Jacqueline Montgomery, Joyce Carpenter, Diane Johnson and Shree Smith, all of Chicago; two brothers, William Kirkland of Forrest City and Willie Kirkland of Memphis; a sister Marie Kirkland of Forrest City and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation service for Mrs. Carpenter Friday, May 11, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in Chicago with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Chicago.
Morgan Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Martha Jean Stewart, age 68, of Marianna, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in West Memphis.
Mrs. Stewart, a homemaker, is survived by four sons, David Stewart of Proctor, Curt Stewart of San Diego, Calif., James Stewart of Marianna and Wilburn Stewart of Little Rock; seven sisters, Katie Harris of Florida, Susie Banks and Christine Vincent, both of Renton, Wash., Geardine Rucker of Modesto, Calif., Polly Moore of Newark, Calif, Hattie Little of Alton, Ill. and Marie Coleman of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Tommy Harris and Bobby Harris, both of Marianna and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 13, 2001, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery in Marianna under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Mr. Donald R. Whittenton, age 54, of Palestine, died Thursday, May 10, 2001.
Mr. Whittenton, born Nov. 22, 1946, in Forrest City, was the son of Ralph Whittenton and Mary Ella McMickle Whittenton. Mr. Whittenton was an employee with Harwick Chemical in Wynne and had lived in the Forrest City area for his entire life. He was also a Baptist.
Mr. Whittenton is survived by a son, Joseph Dansby Whittenton of Austin, Texas; a sister, Paula Kyle of Forrest City; a brother, Ronnie Whittenton of Moore, Okla. and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother Joe Whittenton in 1969.
There will be visitation services for Mr. Whittenton Saturday, May 12, 2001, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 13, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
