2001 Rumble on the Ridge field finalized

Two of Arkansas' five high school boys' basketball state championship teams will highlight the 2001 Rumble on the Ridge Thanksgiving weekend basketball tournament.

And for the first time in the history of the tournament, the field will include three Arkansas teams -- Forrest City, the host team; Osceola the Class AAAA state champions and Hughes, the Class AAA state champions.

The remainder of the Rumble field includes Woodlawn High School (Alabama), 33-4 a year ago and the Class AAAA state runner-up; Columbus High School (Mississippi), 29-6 a year ago and ended the season ranked sixth in the state; Marietta High School (Georgia), 26-5 last year and reached the state tournament Final Four; Carroll High School (Louisiana) and William Chrisman High School, the first team from Missouri to play in the Rumble.

The fifth annual Rumble tournament will be played Nov. 22, 23 and 24 at Mustang Arena.

The Lee High School (Ala.) Generals defeated Forrest City a year ago in the tournament's championship game.

Other Rumble champions include Minor (Ala.); Grissom (Ala.) and Raleigh Egypt (Tenn).


Changes hit girls' softball league Friday schedule

The 10-under girls' slow-pitch softball league schedule of games for Friday night has some changes as does the 16-under fast-pitch softball league.

In the 10-under league, Walker Insurance and Forrest City Bank will play at 6 p.m. on Field 3.

True Value will play Mom's at 7 p.m. on Field 3 while Sanyo will take on Food Giant at 7 p.m., on Field 4.

There are two 8 p.m. games, Southern Furniture vs Steven's on Field 3 and Dr. Schwartz vs Title Company on Field 2.

In the 16-under, Sanyo and Food Giant's game has been changed to a 9:15 p.m. start while Dr. St. John and McDonald's will play at 9 p.m.

In 12-under schedule, Crowley's Ridge and Debbie's Flowers will play at 8 p.m. on Field 1, not 7 p.m. as originally posted.

And Times-Herald and Giffin's will start at 8 p.m., not 8:15 p.m.


FC to host district baseball tournaments

Forrest City will host a pair of youth baseball tournaments this summer.

The Sports Complex will play host for the 10-year-old District Tournament, June 28-July 3 and will also host the 13-year-old District Tournament from July 5-10.

The 12-year-old district will be held in Clarendon, from June 28-July 3 while the 14 and 15-year-old districts will be played in Marion, July 5-11.


Ark. Concrete 1-2 at Super Series

Forrest City Arkansas Concrete finished 1-2 last weekend at the MidSouth Super Series 10-year-old tournament played at Southaven, Miss.

Concrete lost to Gateway Thunder (Mo.) 12-9; No. Alabama Vipers 8-0 and defeated Lakeside (Ark.) 10-0 in pool play.
