Fred's takes 1-0 win over Planter's Bank

Justin McKissick tripled and scored Fred's only run Thursday night but it was enough to lift Fred's to a 1-0 win over Planter's Bank in Junior Babe Ruth League play.

McKissick got his game-winning hit and run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

Fred's improves to 4-0 for the year while Planter's drops to 3-1.

Planter's managed just six base runners during the game and got only two of those as far as third base -- Desmond Golatt and Thomas Brown.

Golatt had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when he walked and moved to third base before being stranded when the game-ending out was made.

Fred's got just five base hits during the seven inning game.

Ridout 18, VIPs 6

Ben Daugherty was 3-for-3 with a walk Thursday night and scored four runs to help lead Ridout past the VIPs 18-6.

Marcus Cole scored three runs while Dion Davenport, Taurus Moore, Rashad Williams and Princeton Davis scored two runs each.

Moore pitched the complete game.

Antonio Jordan scored twice for the VIPs.

Ridout improves to 2-3 for the year while the VIPs fall to 1-3.

Houser's 10, Freeman's 8

Houser's put together a four-run, third inning and then held off Freeman's rally in the fourth to post a 10-8 win in Junior Babe Ruth.

Freeman's led 3-2 after one inning and 5-2 before Houser's scored four times in the bottom of the second to lead 6-5.

Freeman's regained a 7-6 lead in the top of the third but Houser's plated four in the home part of the inning to lead 10-7.

Freeman's added a single run in the top of the fourth.

Tim Patton, Michael Powell and Cedric Parker each scored twice for Housers while Robert Austill, Chris Williams and Sam Johnson scored single runs.

Bryant Brown led Freeman's with two runs while Dexery Powell, Dexter Crawford, Dexter Freeman, Charles Freeman and Nick Chapman scored single runs.


Long layoff doesn't hurt M&T Paving

M&T Paving shook off a nine-day layoff Thursday to stay unbeaten in Minor League play by defeating Joey's Muffler 16-6.

M&T improves to 4-0 for the year to keep pace with Taylor-Casbeer, who improved to 6-0 Thursday with a 23-6 win over Easley Law.

Taylor-Casbeer ended Easley's three-game winning streak.

Rothulles Steverson homered for M&T and joined Cory Deere to score three runs each in the win.

Scott Gracey, Leslie Parker, Tyler Clark and Austin Renigar each scored two runs.

Jarki Jackson scored twice for Joey's and Larry Smith homered.

Taylor-Casbeer got four runs each from Brian Morgan and Tyler McElroy and three runs each from Josh Brock and Zach Trail in their win over Easley.

McElroy and Akeem Bogart homered for the winners.

Devante Mitchell and Jerrod Brown scored two runs each for Easley.


Mulay, C.R. Sand still on top in the Bambino League race

Nothing changed Thursday night in the Bambino (9-10) League as far as the top two teams remaining undefeated.

Mulay and C.R. Sand each improved to 4-0 and remain co-leaders of the league.

C.R. Sand got three runs from Barrett Astin and two runs each from Nathan Jefferson, Seth Smith and Brent Devazier in a 12-4 win over Title Company.

Jefferson hit two home runs while Astin and Smith hit one each.

Turner Norsworthy scored three of Title Company's four runs. Mark Machen, who also pitched the complete game, scored a single run.

Devazier and Smith combined for the C.R. Sand pitching duties.

Mulay 13, Farm Credit 3

Jim Bailey held Farm Credit to three runs on just one hit Thursday which helped Mulay to a 13-3 win.

Bailey struck out eight in the four inning game.

Offensively, Kameron Green led Mulay with three runs while Ronald Scott and Bruce Heard scored twice.

Green homered to lead off the bottom of the third inning.

Chad Hogue, who got Farm Credit's only hit, Heath Swindle and Edmund Tate scored single runs.

Farm Credit slips to 2-3 for the year.

Pearson Insurance 9, McDonald's 8

Pearson Insurance posted their first win of the year Thursday with a 9-8 decision over McDonald's.

Pearson led 4-1 after one inning before McDonald's tied the game at 4-4 in the second inning and took a 7-4 lead in the third.

Pearson, 1-3 for the year, tied the game at 7-7 with three runs in the bottom of the third and McDonald's scored a single run in the top of the fourth to lead 8-7.

Pearson was able to push the winning runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning to get the win.

Hunter McMahand hit two home runs and scored three runs and Caleb Talley added two runs.

Pearson got two runs from Alexander Dulaney and single runs from Jared Northcutt, William Burks and Brandon Rickard.

McDonald's is winless at 0-5.

Sanyo 7, Napa 6

Baker Aldridge and Joey Bonds each scored two runs to push Sanyo past Napa 7-6 in a nine-inning game Thursday night.

Sanyo, 3-2 in the league, scored twice in the top of the ninth, using a two-run home run by Tom Bryant, to snap a 5-5 tie and then held Napa to one run in the bottom of the ninth to post the win.

Napa, 2-3 for the year, got runs from Josh Taylor, Jacoby Cooley, Barrett Beshears and Caleb Davidson.

Cordarius Brown was hit by a pitch to lead off the Sanyo ninth.


Deadline extended for youth camps

The deadline to sign up for the upcoming Forrest City youth summer basketball and football camps has been extended to June 1.

The series of camps will begin with the Lady Mustang-Mustang Elementary Camp, June 11-14, at Mustang Arena.

Both camps are for those youths who will be entering third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades in the fall.

The girls camp will be held from 8 until 11 a.m. each morning while the boys will meet from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

* A junior high camp for boys and girls, who will be entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades in the fall, will be held July 9-12.

The junior girls will meet from 8 until 11 a.m. while the junior boys will meet from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

* An elementary football camp for those youths going into fourth, fifth and sixth grades, will be held June 18-20 at the athletic complex.

The camp will be held from 8 until 11 a.m., each day and like the basketball camps, is free for those who wish to attend.

Registration forms are available at all Forrest City elementary schools and all the camps are free.


New adult baseball league needs players

Efforts are under way to form an adult baseball league in the Jonesboro area.

League play will start in June with Sunday afternoon games.
