Sanyo knocks Food Giant from the unbeaten ranks in 10-under softball

Two of the three unbeaten teams in the girls' 10-under softball league went head-to-head last Friday.

Sanyo made it look easy posting a 13-1 win.

Sanyo stays perfect for the year at 6-0 while Food Giant slips to 5-1.

The league's other undefeated team, Title Company, edged Dr. Schwartz 9-8 and improved to 6-0.

Sanyo and Title Company are scheduled to play each other Friday, June 1, at 8 p.m.

Food Giant got its lone run from Kimberly Shafer, who got aboard on a fielder's choice in the first inning and scored.

Sanyo got three runs each from Akilah Norman and Chelsea Gillespie and two runs each from Erin Marlowe and Chantel Driver, who drilled a two-run home run in the third inning.

FCity Bank 11, Walker Insurance 4

FCity Bank won for only the second time this season defeating Walker Insurance 11-4 last Friday.

Jordan Pentecost, Brittney Wilson and Emily Redditt led FC Bank in scoring with two runs each.

Walker got two runs from Kandace Kirkwood and a single run from Nell Bogard.

Mom's 13, True Value 7

Fielding just seven players, Mom's held off True Value 13-7 last Friday.

Amber King and Meagan Pipkin scored three runs each for Mom's, 2-4 for the year.

Akira Brown and Cassie Holloway led True Value in scoring.

Southern Furniture 9, Steven's 8

Steven's left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday night and suffered a 9-8 loss to Southern. Furniture.

Randi Laws, Chantrice Mason, Chelsey Cole and LaShonda Curtis led Southern while Alexandra Dooley scored three times for Stevens.

Title Company 9, Dr. Schwartz 8

Title Company stayed unbeaten on the year by holding off Dr. Schwartz 9-8 Friday.

The two teams were tied at 6-6 after four innings.

Kemeshia Norris scored twice for Title Company while Dr. Schwartz got two runs from Mishanna Morgan.


T-H scores winning run in last at-bat

In 12-under fast-pitch softball league,, Times-Herald moved to 5-0 for the year with an 11-10 win over Giffin's Grins on Friday.

Locked in a 10-10 tie, after Giffin's scored a single run in the top of the fifth by Stephonia Woods, Times-Herald was able to plate the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning when Meg McGuirt scored with two outs.

Layne McGuirt led Times-Herald by scoring three runs. Mary Nelson and Randal Ross scored two runs each. Jaslyn Deans and Sara Cate Lewey scored single runs.

Kameshia Chism, Brittney Scott and Lavitta Watson scored two runs each to pace Giffin's, 4-2 for the year.

Chism hit a first-inning home run.

Crowley's 13, Debbie's Flowers 9

Crowley's earned their second win of the year last Friday using a 13-9 win over Debbie's Flowers.

Debbie's Flowers, 1-3 for the year, led 9-1 going into the third inning.

Crowley's got a single run in the top of the third and then exploded for five runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to post the come-from-behind victory.

Alicia Hall, Dekesha Huff and Brittney Treat led Crowley's by scoring two runs each.

Debbie's got two runs from Sarah Dickey and single runs from Jessica Rickard, Candice Bradley and Chari Agnew.

Times-Herald has an open date tonight while Debbie's plays Giffin's at 7 p.m. and Children's Clinic takes on Crowley's at 8:15 p.m.


Bonanza holds on for win over Boar's Head

Bonanza improved to 3-2 for the year on Friday by taking a 16-13 win over Boar's Head in girls' 16-under fast-pitch softball.

Bonanza opened a 5-3 lead after one inning and pushed their advantage to 9-4 after two full innings.

Two runs in the top of the third put Bonanza in front 11-4 before Boar's Head plated five runs in the bottom of the third to get back within two at 11-9.

A five-run, fourth pushed Bonanza's lead to 16-9. Boar's Head mounted a rally in the bottom of the inning by scoring four times to make the final.

Stacey Gracey and Hanna McMahand scored three runs each to lead Bonanza.

Boar's Head got two runs each from Chawntay Ballard, Risondra Deans and Gabrielle Agnew.

Dr. St. John 14, McDonald's 9

Erin Patterson, Kristen Rodriguez and Kimberly Hoots scored three runs each Friday to lead Dr. St. John past McDonald's 14-9 in 16-under play.

The two teams were deadlocked at 2-2 after one inning and 5-5 after two innings.

St. John plated two runs in the top of the third to lead 7-5 before falling behind 9-7 in the third when McDonald's scored four times.

St. John regained the lead by scoring five times in the fourth.

Sanyo 17, Food Giant 14

Sanyo scored five runs in the first, third and fourth innings Friday to post a 17-14 win over Food Giant.

Every Sanyo starter scored at least one run, led by Kendra Triggs, Samantha Green, Kim Ursery, Jasmine Stephens and Takeena Cunningham, who scored two runs each.

Bridgett Clark, Dana Reeves, Sharhonda Jackson, Pricilla Meredith and Wendi Humphrey scored single runs.

Food Giant got three runs from Holly Simon and Amanda Renigar and two runs each from Nikki Tripp and Jessica Long.

Sanyo improves to 2-3 for the year while Food Giant slips to 1-3-1.

Food Giant takes on Boar's Head tonight while McDonald's goes against Bonanza and Sanyo takes on Clay.

All three games are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m..


Cochran Auto hands Hess Shoes first loss of the year in Bambino

Douglas Miller and Blake Davis pitched three innings each Friday to help lead Cochran Auto past Hess Shoes 12-3 in Bambino (11-12) League play.

It was the first loss of the season for Hess, leaving the team at 4-1 and in a three-way tie for first place.

Cochran improves to 4-1 as does Rotary Club, a 6-2 winner over Taylor Glass on Friday.

Cochran fell behind 3-0 before scoring its first runs in the fourth inning.

Justin Cochran, Kentrell Buchanan, Kendall Rucker and William Franklin each crossed home plate twice for Cochran.

Hess got single runs from Torre Hunter, Chadwick Doyle and Amos Hines and used three pitchers, Kenny Grady, Michael King and Doyle.

Bonanza 10, Taco Bell 7

Bonanza used a six-run, fourth inning -- highlighted by a two-run homer from Johnnie Jones and a three-run triple from Tyler McCluskey to put down Taco Bell 10-7.

Taco Bell answered with a five-run, fifth and got two runs from Justin Gadberry.

Rotary Club 6, Taylor Glass 2

Rotary Club pulled into a three-way tie for the league lead Friday with a 6-2 win over Taylor Glass.

Taylor Clark worked six innings to earn the pitching victory.

Clark allowed the two Taylor Glass runs on six hits.

Julian Isom, Tyrice Bradley, Clark, Kyle Ramsey, Garritt Clark and Chauceney Boles provided Rotary's scoring.

Taylor got single runs from Wilson Parker and Rylan Nimocks, who hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Vaccaro 11, POPS 8

Matt Howton and Trenton Ware each scored twice to lift Vaccaro over POPS 11-8.

Vaccaro led 3-2 after one inning and 8-2 after two.


Forfeit win lifts Mr. T Auto to .500 for the year; Lion's Club edges Farm Bureau

Mr. T. Auto picked up a forfeit victory Friday over Dr. Beasley to improve to 3-3 for the year in Minor League play.

Dr. Beasley failed to field enough players to start the game.

In Friday's only other schedule game, Lion's Club scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to nip Farm Bureau 12-11.

Farm Bureau scored twice in the top of the sixth to take n 11-10 lead.

Lion's Club got singles from Kenneth Millbrook and Harrison Neblett and both runners scored to provide the winning points.

Ladarius Hartway led Lion's Club by scoring three times, including a first-inning home run.

Jacob Tittle scored twice and hit a home run in the game.

Farm Bureau got home runs from Will Whittenton and Andre Dulaney, who also scored three times.
