Vandalism on the increase

Three instances of criminal mischief have kept local police busy over the last week.

On Tuesday, May 22, it was reported that a group of boys were walking south on Williams Street, throwing rocks at street lights and breaking them.

On Friday, May 25, an anonymous caller told police that someone had thrown a brick through the window at Southern Furniture on Washington Street.

Also on Friday night, police answered an alarm and found a window broken at Taylor Casbeer on Cleveland Street.

No arrests have been made in any of the incidents.

An old campaign

Everyone knew the building being torn down on Front Street was old However, construction crew workers were surprised to find pipes with Herbert Hoover presidential campaign advertisements still intact and legible. "These are historical items," said one worker. "They belong in a museum." They may belong in a museum, but a judge still hasn't decided who actually is responsible for the damage the recent demolition of the structure caused to a next door building.
