The Forrest City Blue Junior Mustangs picked up their first win of the season Monday night at Mustangs Arena, a 63-49 victory over the Hughes Junior Blue Devils.
It was Hughes' fourth straight loss of the year and it came despite a 30-point performance by guard David Dowden.
Dowden's 30 points accounted for more than half of the Junior Blue Devils total.
He had 10 points in the second period and 11 in the fourth period. Marcus Washington was second in scoring for Hughes with nine points while Adrian Driver finished with eight.
Three Blue Junior Mustangs finished in double figures led by seventh-grade guard Stephon Weaver who poured in 19 points. Terrance Ware added 18 points and LaCody Braddock finished with 11. Sherman Allen had five and Michael Alston chipped in four points.
Hughes opened a 15-11 lead after one period before Forrest City mounted a rally in the second period to get within two points at the half, trailing 28-26 after Braddock turned a three-point play with a layup and one free throw.
Braddock finished with a pair of slam dunks on the night, the second of which came early in the third period and helped the Blue Mustangs in a run that saw them tie the game at 28-28 and then take the lead at 30-28.
With less than a minute to play in the third period, Forrest City led 44-35.
Hughes cut the Blue Mustang lead to seven points, 46-39 at the five minute mark, but a Braddock field goal a free throw by Ware, a driving layup by Allen and a three-pointer by Weaver pushed the Forrest City lead back to 54-39 to complete the 8-0 run.
Ware and Weaver accounted for the final nine points of the bal game.
The Blue Mustangs even their record at 1-1.
Marion 52, Palestine-Wheatley 48
Curtis Allen scored 13 points to lead the Palestine-Wheatley Junior Patriots Monday night but it was Lee Glaspie's 19 points that helped Marion to a 52-48 win at the Junior Jaguar Classic in McCrory.
Marion will play Newport on Thursday.
In Monday's other junior boys' game, Harding Academy defeated Newark 40-2.
Harding Academy led 28-0 at the half.
Ryan Higginbotham and Seth Osburn each scored eight points for Harding.
Junior Girls
Hughes 32, Forrest City Blue 21
The Junior Lady Blue Devils improved to 1-2 for the year Monday night and kept the Forrest City Blue Lady Mustangs winless by taking a 32-21 win at Mustang Arena.
Marley Lemons led the way for Hughes with 13 points while Daisha Southern added eight points and Jana Robinson chipped in five points, all from the free throw line.
Aneisha Barden led Forrest City with eight points while Torrie Willie added seven and Monique Foy helped out with six points on two three-pointers from the field.
Forrest City led 7-5 after the first period but Hughes rallied to take a 15-7 lead at the half holding the Blue Lady Mustangs scoreless in the second period.
Newport 34, Palestine-Wheatley 15
Nan Turner scored 11 points to help lead Newport to a 34-15 win over the Palestine-Wheatley Junior Lady Patriots Monday at the Junior Jaguar Classic in McCrory.
Tonisha Wynne led Palestine-Wheatley with seven points.
Newport will play McCrory on Thursday.
In Monday's other girls' game, Jessica Stevens scored 15 points to help lead Harding Academy past Marion 32-28.
Emily Stokes led Marion with nine points.

CABOT -- The Forrest City Lady Mustangs hung with the Cabot Lady Panthers for a half but the third quarter was their doom in a 71-56 loss to the conference foe in the first round of the Panther Classic Monday night.
Cabot started fast moving to a 16-2 lead and settled for a 26-11 cushion at the end of the first quarter.
Forrest City opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run fueled by Caronica Randle. Chrystal Summage and Deosha Agnew each hit a free throw and Randle followed with a basket to cut Cabot's lead to 26-16.
Cabot led 30-20 when Forrest City scored five in a row on baskets by Agnew and Katrina Wynne and a free throw by Randle to make the score 30-25.
Cabot led 34-27 at halftime.
Cabot used runs of 8-0 and 9-0 to take a commanding 61-35 lead at the end of the third quarter after outscoring the Lady Mustangs 27-to-8 in the period.
Forrest City outscored the Lady Panthers 21-10 in the fourth quarter.
Randle led the Lady Mustangs with 24 points while Wynne added 13 and Deosha Agnew chipped in nine points.
Alyson Boone led Cabot with 18 points.

SEARCY -- Tara Lehman scored 17 points to lead the Jonesboro Lady Hurricane to a 66-49 win over Pine Bluff Dollarway Monday in the senior girls' first-round of the White River Medical Center Classic at Searcy High School.
Jonesboro (6-0) will play the Osceola-Palestine Wheatley winner Friday. P-W and Osceola play today at 4 p.m.
Sara Lehman added 14 points and eight rebounds for Jonesboro and Lydia Nelson had 12 points.
Also Monday, Searcy defeated Batesville.
The P-W Patriots play Beebe today at 5:30 p.m., in boys' action.
Monday, Dollarway defeated Wynne and Batesville downed Clinton.
Turrell's senior boys' and girls' teams rolled to victories over C.V. White on the first day of the Turrell Invitational tournament Monday.
The Rockets (12-0) rallied for a 72-62 victory while the Lady Rockets rolled to a 50-10 victory.
Turrell will play Augusta Thursday.
Also Monday, Marvell's senior boys defeated Brinkley 64-52 and Brinkley's senior girls defeated Crawfordsville 31-28.
In junior boys' games from Monday, Turrell defeated Brinkley 33-16 and will face Forrest City White Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Tonight, Blytheville's junior boys face Earle at 5:15 p.m.
In junior girls' play tonight, Forrest City White will play Blytheville at 6:30 p.m. and Turrell will take on West Memphis East at 4 p.m.
That winner will go against Hughes Thursday, at 4 p.m. The Forrest City-Blytheville winner draws Parkin Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.
