James Henry Groves

Mr. James Henry Groves, age 85, of Memphis, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tenn.

Mr. Groves was born Dec. 9, 1915, in Williamsville, Ill. and was the son of the late Harley Constant Groves and the late Harriet Elizabeth Cline Groves. He had been a cotton farmer in St. Francis County prior to moving to Memphis in 1948 where he was a farmer and property manager for many years and a member of the Audubon Park Baptist Church. Mr. Groves was also a 32nd degree Mason and an Eagle Scout Master.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Harrison Groves of Memphis; two daughters, Donna Dean Moffatt of Oakland, Tenn. and Becky Cotbran of Altavista, Va.; a son, Henry Harrison Groves of Germantown, Tenn.; a sister, Eleanor Ruth Brattain of Hampton, Va.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Groves were conducted on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at the Audubon Park Baptist Church in Memphis with Rev. Don Marston and Rev. Linda W. Seriano officiating the services. Burial followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tenn. with Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home of Somerville in charge of the arrangements.

The family requests memorials be sent the Audubon Park Baptist Church, 4060 Park Ave., Memphis, TN., 38111.
