Mrs. Alice Collins Coats, age 84, of Jackson, Tenn., formerly of Blytheville, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Jackson, Tenn.
Mrs. Coats was born March 19, 1917, in Gibson County, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Edward and Novi C. Thetford Collins. She was a Blytheville resident most of her life and was active in the Armorel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a past president of Town and Country Extension Club for several years.
Mrs. Coats was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John Frank "Rip" Coats in 2000.
She is survived by a son, Jerry L. Coats of Mechanicsville, Md.; three daughters, Olivia Sue Hughes of Jackson, Tenn., Betty Gail Spears of Forrest City and Donna Lou Jones of Houston, Texas; a sister, Mary Collins Young of Farmington, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Coats will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at 10 a.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Matt Corkran officiating under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home.
Mr. Willis Jones Jr., age 81, of Marvell, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Jones was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Forrest City, and was the son of Willis Jones Sr. and Elsie Bell Jones. He was retired from Fredman Bag Company in Milwaukee, Wis.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Weatherall Jones and is survived by two sisters, Channie Willis of Gary, Ind. and Rosetta Coates of Chicago, Ill. and a brother, Clinton Culler of Forrest City.
Visitation for Mr. Jones will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, from noon to 5 p.m., at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary with Rev. James L. Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Rev. Jewell Ann Kennedy, age 44, of Haynes, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at her home.
Rev. Kennedy was born Dec. 25, 1957, in Wynne.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney Lee Kennedy Jr. of the home; a son, Scott Allen Kennedy of Haynes; a daughter, Deanea Hollis of Louisiana; her mother, Willie Sheppherd; three brothers, Bobby, George and Stanley; eight sisters, Chris Sheppherd, Clara Bell, Norma Jean, Mary Ann, Ethel, Ruby, Jeanette and Patsy.
A memorial service will be held for Rev. Kennedy, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at 6 p.m., at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna with Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Elaine Toomey, age 80, of Hanceville, Ala., formerly of Forrest City, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Toomey was born April 18, 1921, in Philadelphia, Penn. and was the daughter of Leo and Mildred Geier. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Toomey is survived by her husband, Edward Toomey of Hanceville, Ala.; four sons, Edward Toomey, James Toomey and Stephen Toomey, all of Roanoke, Va. and Mike Toomey of Hanceville, Ala.; two sisters, Marion Bronski and Ruth McGuckin; a brother, Wilbur Geier; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Toomey will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Hanceville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart with Father John officiating the service. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Hanceville Funeral Home.
