The Memphis Grizzlies are dedicating the upcoming NBA season to "Everyday Heroes"

Grizzlies players are showing their enthusiastic support by recognizing firefighters, law enforcement officers and other emergency task force personnel as well as collecting donations by stopping in several cities in Arkansas during their "Goodwill Tour."

The tour included a Tuesday afternoon stop at the Forrest City Fire Department and included NBA veteran and former University of Memphis standout Lorenzen Wright.

The tour was set in motion by the terrorists attacks on Sept. 11.

The Grizzlies will dedicate this inaugural season to America's "everyday heroes."

Memphis' first home pre-season game on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Pyramid against the Portland Trailblazers.

Complimentary tickets for all home pre-season games will be provided to all firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency personnel across Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

"We are just trying to give back to the community as much as we can," Wright said. "We're talking with the guys who are the real heroes every day. People view athletes as heroes. That's not true. The firefighters, police and others who risk their lives each day are the heroes."

Following the Oct. 9 game, the Grizzlies host the Clippers, Oct. 14 ; Seattle on Monday, Oct. 15 and Miami on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Tip-off time for each game is 7 p.m. with the exception ofa 2 p.m. Sunday start against the Clippers.

The Grizzlies then play four consecutive road games at Phoenix, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento, and Portland before the regular season home opener on Nov. 1 vs. Detroit.

Joining Wright and other team executives on the tour were four members of the Grizzlies 16-person dance team.

Wright said he was in New York the day of the attacks but was able to get an early flight out.

"I barely made it out," Wright said.

Wright, a five-year NBA veteran, said he was looking forward to his first season with the Grizzlies.
