Ruby Bogan

Ms. Ruby Bogan, age 57, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis.

Ms. Bogan, born near Blackfish Lake, was a nurses assistant, a member of the Rising Sun M.B. Church in Forrest City, where she sang in the choir and also sang with the Sensational Five Group.

She is survived by four daughters, Beatrice Brown and Bernice Bogan, both of Wynne, Janet Bogan Smith and Teressa Bogan Ivy, both of Forrest City; one son, Jessie Webb of Wheatley; her father, Walter Bogan Sr. of Wheatley; two brothers, Walter Bogan Jr. and Isiah Bogan, both of Chicago, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation for Ms. Bogan will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at W.H. Johnson Funeral Home in Earle. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 4, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Rising Sun M.B. Church in Forrest City. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens in Edmondson under the direction of W.H. Johnson Funeral Home in Earle.


Daniel Ray Hart

Mr. Daniel Ray Hart, age 31, of Palestine, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Hart, born Oct. 1, 1970, in Little Rock and was the son of Loyd Hart Sr. and Shirley Temple Robinson. He worked in construction and was a member of the Church of God.

He is survived by his mother; his stepfather, Carl Hankins Sr.; a daughter, Katie Ray Hart, of Conway; five brothers, Loyd Hart Jr., Nelson Hart, Joe Hart and Robert Hart, all of Palestine and Gary Hart of Dewitt; eight sisters, Debra Armstrong of Dewitt, Wanda Greene of Clarendon, Kay Ballard of Cotton Plant, Lynn Ortiz of Moro and Marjorie Hutchinson, Betty Hart and Tina Pate, all of Palestine and Linda Ortiz of Rogers; three step-brothers, Carl Hankins Jr. of Miami, Fla. and Johnnie Hankins and Tommy Hankins, both of Forrest City and a step-sister, Lavon Hankins of Miami, Fla.

Funeral services for Mr. Hart were held, Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna with Rev. Bill Thomason officiating. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna.


Beatrice Howard

Mrs. Beatrice Howard, age 65, of North Little Rock, died Monday, April 1, 2002.

Mrs. Howard was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Osceola. She was the daughter of Hillard Brewer and Loyce Coleman Brewer. Mrs. Howard was a former resident of Forrest City, and had lived in North Little Rock for the past 32 years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Howard married John L. Howard in 1953, and he survives her along with one son, Mike Howard of Lonoke; one daughter, Debra Tober of North Little Rock; one sister, Barbara Gilmer of Colt; four brothers, Coleman Brewer of Frederick Town, Mo., Coley Brewer of Beebe, H.L. Brewer of O'Fallon, Mo., and Cecil Brewer of England, Ark. and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by a son, Craig L. Howard in 1968.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


Mildred Rowland

Mrs. Mildred Rowland, age 92, of Forrest City, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at her home in Forrest City.

Mrs. Rowland was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Caldwell, the daughter of Rev. W. M. Thompson and Hulda Victoria Cash Thompson. She lived in Forrest City most of her life, was a housewife and a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rowland married William Marion Rowland in 1960, and he preceded her in death in 1962.

Survivors include three daughters, Lairean Staggs of Tennessee, Jane Stevenson of Forrest City and Betty Hudson of Elaine; four sons, Bearl Staggs of Missouri, Frank Staggs and Bobby Staggs, both of Forrest City and Keby Joe Staggs of Conway; 48 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.


Dollie Elvira King Starkey

Mrs. Dollie Elvira King Starkey, age 81, of Wynne, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at her residence.

Mrs. Starkey, born Dec. 14, 1920, in Cherry Valley, was the daughter of Henry and Hattie Hopkins King and was a former resident Walnut Ridge. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal by faith.

On Aug. 30, 1941 Mrs. Starkey married Ollie B. Starkey, and he preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by six sons, L.B. Starkey of Pine Bluff, Tom Starkey of Batesville, James Starkey of Rogers, Wilfred and Kenneth Starkey, both of Wynne, and David Starkey of Portland, Ore.; four daughters, Joyce Bayles of Walnut Ridge, Addie Hertz of Pleasant Plains, Brenda Gray of Wynne and Bonnie Wilson of Alicia; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Starkey and a daughter, Pauline Starkey.

Visitation services for Mrs. Starkey will be held, Tuesday, April 2, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. Funeral services for Mrs. Starkey will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne with Rev. Calvin Starkey officiating. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne.
