Mrs. Janie Sue Britton Hughes, age 69, of Caldwell, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mrs. Hughes, born Aug. 5, 1932, in Colt, was the daughter of Earl Britton and Rosie Lee May Britton. She was the office manager for Medical Technology and was retired from Yale Hoist, where she spent 26 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Caldwell and served as church treasurer and an Awana leader.
In 1950 Mrs. Hughes married Leon Hughes and he survives her along with a son, Gary Hughes of Caldwell; two daughters, Pam Speer of Caldwell and Deborah Robertson of Pocola, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Turner and Gracie Duffel, both of Caldwell; a brother, Bransford Britton of Forrest City and six grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Hughes will be held, Friday, April 5, 2002, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held, Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Caldwell with burial following in Hughes Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Caldwell's Awana program.
Mr. John Vernon Woodrome, age 83, of Marianna, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mr. Woodrome, born Jan. 1, 1919, in Greenbriar, was the son of O.V. Woodrome and Willie Edna Lawrence Woodrome. He lived in Lee County for most of his life, was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and was a member of Oak Forrest Methodist Church.
In 1941, Mr. Woodrome married Irene Preston Moye Woodrome and she survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Carol Billingsley of Marianna and a grandson.
Funeral services for Mr. Woodrome were held today, Friday, April 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
