Full course of spring sports set for today

By FRED CONLEY

T-H Sports Editor

There's a full course on the high school spring sports table today.

However, if you're thinking of attending any of today's events, consider that it's all on the road.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs will try once again to earn their first AAAAA-East Conference victory of the season today when they make the trip to Little Rock to take on Little Rock Mills.

The Lady Comets downed the Lady Mustangs 16-5 earlier in the season.

Forrest City, coming off a 9-2 loss to West Memphis on Tuesday, are 0-6 against the league opponents and 2-7 overall for the season.

Game time is 4 p.m.

TRACK TEAMS

The Forrest City Mustang and Lady Mustang track teams will compete today at the Cougar Relays in West Helena.

Aside from a practice meet last month, this is the first ribbon meet for the senior girls.

The Mustangs ran at Marion on Monday with a "patch-work team," according to head coach Jeff Hudson.

"We were just coming back from spring break and we had some kids who were absent from class that day and some others who were under the weather, so we weren't anywhere close to being at full strength," Hudson said.

GOLF

The Forrest City Mustang golf team will return to the course today when they make the trip to Bald Knob.

It is the second matchup between the two schools this season.

The Mustangs, coming off a win Monday in a trimatch against Wynne and Marion, won the first match against Bald Knob, 168-219.

The Mustang baseball team will return to conference play on Friday when they host Jacksonville for a varsity doubleheader, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

HUGHES SOFTBALL

The Hughes Lady Blue Devils couldn't hold off Clarendon Wednesday in slow pitch conference softball played at Hughes.

Hughes led 5-2 through five innings before Clarendon rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to close the gap to 5-4 and then pushed three runs across the plate in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 7-5 win.

Clarendon stays unbeaten at 2-0 in the conference while Hughes slips to 0-2 for the season.

Jordan Julian went the distance on the mound for Clarendon.

Hughes is in their first-ever full season of girls' softball.

Clarendon is one of a handful of schools across the state which are still playing slow pitch.

The Lady Blue Devils will travel to West Helena today to take on the Lady Cougars in a softball game set to begin at 4 p.m.

HUGHES BASEBALL

The Hughes Blue Devils, also in their first season of baseball, will travel to Trumann today to take on the Wildcats in a game set to start at 4 p.m.

The Blue Devils are coming off a 10-0 loss to Barton on Tuesday.

PATRIOT BASEBALL

The Palestine-Wheatley Patriots hosted Clarendon on Wednesday in conference baseball action, but as of press time, the game results were unavailable.

The Patriots will host Barton Friday while the Lady Patriot softball team travels to Gillett for a conference matchup.
