It wasn't pretty.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs made too many errors and the Jacksonville Lady Red Devils showed why they are a contender for the league title.

Monday, the Lady Red Devils shut out the Lady Mustangs 12-0 in a AAAAA-East Conference game played at the Sports Complex.

The Lady Mustangs fall to 2-9 for the year and 0-8 in the league while Jacksonville improves to 13-2 overall for the year.

Forrest City did not send more than three batters to the plate in the first four innings while Jacksonville was busy building an 8-0 lead.

A big six-run second inning helped put the game away early for the Lady Red Devils.

Forrest City managed just two hits during the game -- one by Alicia Kennedy and one by Tyeshia McDaniel.

Jacksonville pounded out 14 hits on their way to scoring the 12 runs.

Forrest City travels to Cabot on Thursday.

CARLISLE --When you hit the softball, good things usually happen.

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots finally had a good day swinging the softball bats Monday and the effort paid off with an 11-1 win over Carlisle.

After suffering a 4-3 loss to Gillett Friday, in which the Lady Patriots had only four base hits, the P-W team slapped 10 hits, including a two-run home run by Nikki Bass in the 11-1 win.

Carlisle opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but it was Palestine-Wheatley after that.

The Lady Patriots scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings and added the final two in the sixth.

Bass scord twice as did Libby Martin, Marla Gardner and Jenny Loewer.

JONESBORO -- The Forrest City Blue Junior Mustangs finished fifth Monday at the Paul Hoffman Relays held at Jonesboro High School.

Jonesboro Annie Camp ran first while Jonesboro MacArthur finished a close second. Marion ran third and Greene County Tech finished fourth.

"It wasn't an outstanding effort on our part," said Blue Coach Rich Trail, "but it wasn't terrible either. It gave us a chance to see all of the teams in the district so we know what to expect at the upcoming conference championships."

Cory Embry ran first in the 200-meter dash and was second in the 100-meter dash for the Blue Mustangs.

Chris Barrett ran fourth in the 400-meter dash.

LaCody Braddock won the high jump while Charles Freeman was sixth.

In the relays, The Blue Mustangs ran fifth in the 800 and sixth in the 400-meter events.

The White Mustangs, coached by Stan Siler, got a fourth place finish by Cedric Johnson in the 100-meter dash and a sixth place finish by Larry Summage.

Summage ran fifth in the 200-meter dash.

"The Paul Hoffman Relays are always an outstanding meet," Siler said. "There is always outstanding competition from the junior high track teams involved. We didn't score a lot, but the kids got a lot out of the meet and that will help us down the road."
