John J. Callahan

Mr. John J. Callahan, age 83, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002 at his daughter's home in Forrest City.

Mr. Callahan was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Texas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Callahan. Mr. Callahan lived in Forrest City most of his life, was a factory worker and farmer, and a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Callahan married Lula Worley in 1939 and she survives him along with three daughters, Mildred Britton of Wynne, Louise Howard and Josie Allmond both of Forrest City; three sons, Johnny Callahan, J.L. Callahan and Ellis Frost all of Forrest City; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He had one son, Richard Kellum, who preceded him in death in 1988.

Visitation for Mr. Callahan will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Hughes Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.


Ethel Mae Dean Webber

Mrs. Ethel Mae Dean Webber, age 51, of Forrest City and formerly of Hughes, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis.

Mrs. Webber is survived by her husband, Rev. Eugene Webber of Forrest City; her mother, Ollie Mae Dean of Hughes; three daughters, Helen Jean Troup of Forrest City, Janet Wallace of St. Louis, Mo. and Debbie Webber of New Orleans, La.; one son, Andre Blocker of Memphis; three sisters, Helen Smith of Hughes, Doskie Lee Rupert of Brickeys and Patricia Tucker of St. Louis, Mo.; four brothers, Elder Alexander Dean of Hughes, Freddie Dean of Gary, Ind., Charles Dean of Detroit, Mich. and Roosevelt Dean of Forrest City and nine grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Webber will be held Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Bethel Church of God in Christ in Hughes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the church with burial following in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Brickeys. Anthony Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.


John Winston

Mr. John Winston, age 77, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at St. Bernard Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mr. Winston, born Sept. 1, 1924, in Parkin, is survived by his wife, Roberta Johnson Winston of Forrest City; two step-daughters, Katherine Johnson and Iola Johnson, both of Forrest City; two step-sons, Waverly Barnes and Clarence Williams, both of Forrest City.

Visitation services for Mr. Winston will be held Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Winston will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Days Temple Church of God in Christ with Elder Albert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
