Mrs. Alta Dee Belshe Carroll

Mrs. Alta Dee Belshe Carroll, age 92, passed away Saturday, December 21, in hospital.

Mrs. Carroll was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where she was a model and social worker. She lived in Forrest City for 62 years. She was a Speech Therapist for the Forrest City Schools for 13 years, and was in service to her community in numerous other ways. She was a founder of the FC Little Theater and remained as resident director for 15 years. She wrote skits performed locally and gave musical play reviews. She was a Charter Member and first president of the Junior Auxiliary, served as president of Delphian Club and the Garden Gate Garden Club. She was an avid horticulturist and flower arranger.

For years, her home was filled with students taking dramatic lessons or speech corrections. She enjoyed golf with her husband and was an enthusiastic bridge player.

Mrs. Carroll married Richard E. Carroll in 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1984. She is survived by one daughter, Ms. Linda Hasler of Forrest City, one son, Mr. Scott Carroll of Forrest City, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Services for Mrs. Carroll will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1:00 p.m., Thursday.


Cordie June Matlock

Mrs. Cordie June Matlock, age 59, of Colt, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Matlock was born March 23, 1943, in Hunter, the daughter of Charles Shepherd and Rilla Ashburn Shepherd. She made her home in the Colt area for all of her life and was a housewife.

Mrs. Matlock married J.W. Matlock in 1958 and he survives her along with four daughters, Annette Sherman of Brinkley, Sarah Moll of Morrilton, Teresa O'dell and Donna Stidham both of Colt, two sisters, Betty Shepherd of Forrest City, Louise Carter of Leola; seven brothers, Bud Shepherd and Jack Shepherd both of Florida, Ernest Shepherd and Don Shepherd both of Michigan, Glenn Shepherd of Ft. Smith, Larry Shepherd of Colt and Lonnie Shepherd of Forrest City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mrs. Matlock will be held on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Stevens Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Loughridge Cemetery.
