Mrs. Juanita Alma Ervin, age 76, of Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2002.
Mrs. Ervin was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thomas Morgan of Collierville, Tenn. and Caanan, Miss. She was a longtime resident and businesswoman in Rossville, Tenn., where she owned and operated Ervin's Restaurant and Wolf River Feed and Supply.
Mrs. Ervin married Preston Ervin in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by a son, Kinney Ervin of Widener; a step-daughter, Margaret Winters of Liberty, Utah, and three grandchildren.
A private service will be held for Mrs. Ervin at a later date. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Center in Memphis.
Mrs. Deloris People Jacks, age 78, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Jacks, born Sept. 2, 1924, in Forrest City was the daughter of Alpheus People and Octie Perkins People. She was the wife of the late Arthur R. Jacks Sr. and was a volunteer for the St. Francis County Food Pantry and a member of Boyd Chapter 106 Eastern Star. Mrs. Jacks was also a retiree of the Forrest City School District and worked as a cafeteria worker and a member of the Nelson Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Jacks is survived by six daughters, Rosetta Owens of Madison, Ill., Bernice Wilson and Emma Thomas, both of Pine Bluff, Deloris Inmon of Vicksburg, Miss., Carolyn Dulaney of Forrest City and Octie Ashley of Little Rock; six sons, Leo Jacks and Alpheus Jacks, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Theo Jacks of Pine Bluff, Nathaniel Jacks of Chicago, Ill., Herbert Jacks of Suisun, Calif., and Arthur Jacks of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Vera Bailey of Forrest City and Eloris Lyon of Thompson, Ohio; 32 grandchildren; 17 grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
Visitation services will be held Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, from 12 to 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs. Jacks will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Cross Street with Rev. S. W. Baker Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.
Mrs. Josephine Catherine Oskowis, age 84, of Tijeras, N.M., and formerly of Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in her home.
Mrs. Oskowis was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Philadelphia, Penn. She was a housewife and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was also a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Mrs. Oskowis married John E. Oskowis in 1939 and he survives her along with two sons, John Oskowis of Tijeras, N.M., and James Oskowis of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Judith Shirley of Forrest City; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Lucas and Stephen Oskowis.
Visitation for Mrs. Oskowis will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Andrew "Hubba Bubba" Lee Rogers Sr., age 54, of Colt, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Teressa Rogers of Colt; a son, Andrew Lee Rogers Jr. of Colt; three daughters, Lawanda Grant of Little Rock, LaTonya Rogers of Dallas, Texas and Rita Rogers of St. Louis, Mo.; his mother, Bertha Rogers of Colt; four brothers, Leonard Rogers and Rodney Rogers, both of Colt, Ray Rogers of Forrest City and James Rogers of Moorehead City, North Carolina; five sisters, Wilma Stewart of Colt; Lillie Jefferson and Neomi Sledge of St. Louis, Mo., Augestine Thompson and Gloria Black of Moorehead City, N.C., and four grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mr. Rogers will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Wynne. There will also be a visitation service on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Mt. Sini M.B. Church prior to funeral services which begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery.
