The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots had to put in a little extra work Tuesday night against Altheimer.
Forced into their first overtime of the season, after ending regulation in a 31-31 tie, the Lady Patriots had just enough in the extra period to take a 35-32 win.
Palestine-Wheatley improves to 14-10 overall and 10-1 in the 6AA Conference with one game left to play -- a road trip tonight at Elaine, weather permitting.
With a win over Elaine tonight, the Lady Patriots will finish as co-champions of the conference with Barton, but will most likely be the No. 2 seed into the district tournament which begins Monday at Barton.
Bass said Barton's Lady Bears will more than likely be the No. 1 seed while Altheimer will draw the three seed.
Barton and P-W split their regular season conference games against each other.
P-W led Altheimer 10-8 after the first period and only 19-13 at the half.
The third period belonged to Altheimer as the Lady Red Devils outscored P-W 11-to-3 to lead 24-22 to start the fourth period.
P-W's three points came from two free throws by Nikita Love and one field goal by LaRhonda Bender.
"Altheimer is quick and they are very physical on the boards," P-W Coach Beverly Bass said. "We probably didn't play our best game and we missed too many wide open shots. It was the same thing when we played them at their place. The game was close until the final minutes when we finally were able to put them away."
Libby Martin scored nine to lead P-W while Nikki Bass and Bender finished with seven points each and Love added six. Brittney Flenory had four points and Beth Varvil added two.
It was the first overtime game for the Lady Patriots since defeating Searcy 69-66 two years ago at the White County Tournament.
