Vryl D. Burghart

Mr. Vryl Dean Burghart, aged 72, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kans.

He was born Jan. 18, 1929 in Chanute, Kans., the son of Ralph J. Burghart and Minnie R. Debler Burghart. He graduated from Chanute Junior College in 1948, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. After returning to Kansas, he received a Masters Degree in Education and taught school in Russell, Kans. He also lived in California for a time, before returning to Kansas in 2000.

In July of 2000 he married Nadine Brinkmeyer Burghart, who survives him.

Mr. Burghart is also survived by two brothers, Earl D. Burghart of Forrest City and Karl Burghart of Orange Park Fla.; a sister, Phyllis Nordt of Chanute; four step-children, Shirley Baron of Montana, Rebecca Brinkmeyer and Vicky Brinkmeyer, both of Wichita,Kans. and Dwight Brinkmeyer of Falls River, Kans.; seven step grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute, with Rev. Scott Lemmermann officiating. Burial followed at the Altoona Cemetery with an honor guard provided by American Legion Post 170. Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Bill Burton

Mr. Bill Burton, age 53, of Cherry Valley, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne.

Mr. Burton was born March 10, 1948, in Wynne, and was a lab technician in the research and development lab at Rubatex Corporation in Colt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Wynne Baptist Church.

Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his father, George Leroy Burton.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Johnson Burton of Cherry Valley; two sons, George David Burton and Matthew Brian Burton, both of Wynne; his mother, Jessie Marie Weeks Burton of Wynne; three brothers, Rodney Burton and Bobby Burton, both of Wynne, and Donald Burton of Jonesboro; and one sister, Betty Ramsey of Wynne.

Funeral services for Mr. Burton were held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the Wynne Baptist Church, with Dr. Wes George and O'dell McCallum officiating. Burial followed in Halk Cemetery near Wynne, under the direction of Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne.

The family request memorials be sent to the Wynne Baptist Church Mission Fund.


Ruby Rudick Matlock

Mrs. Ruby Rudick Matlock, aged 82, a long-time resident of the Augusta and Woodruff County Area, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy.

She was born Nov. 21, 1919 in Big Flat, and was the daughter of the late Floyd E. and Annie Bell Branscum Rudick. They later moved to Hilleman. In 1945, she married Floyd Matlock. They moved to Augusta in 1967. Mr. Matlock preceded her in death in 1985.

Mrs. Matlock was as member of the Grace Baptist Church in Augusta and was a housewife.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally Ann Matlock Hudson of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Gilbert Matlock of Forrest City and Dolen Matlock of Conway; a brother, Calvin Rudick of Marysville, Ind.; a sister, Bernice Dunkin of Drasco; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Claude and Clarence Rudick and a sister, Verdi Baty.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Grace Baptist Church in Augusta, with Rev. Steven Beavers officiating. Burial followed in Cotton Plant Cemetery, under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church, 806 Gregory, Augusta.
