By FRED CONLEY

It was a good Monday night for the Forrest City junior high boys' basketball teams.

The Blue Mustangs enjoyed their best offensive outing since an early November win over Hughes, when they defeated West Memphis West 61-46 at Mustang Arena.

In other conference games Monday, West Memphis Wonder (10-6 overall) upset previously undefeated Jonesboro MacArthur 56-42, behind a 34-point effort from Mark Mangum.

The White Mustangs won for the second time this season by turning back West Memphis East 54-42 at East.

Both the Blue and White girls' teams lost in their conference games Monday.

*Stephon Weaver scored 17 points, including three, three-pointers in the first half in the Blue Mustangs' win over West. Terrance Ware and Chris Williams each finished with 10 points while Sherman Allen and LaCody Braddock added nine points each.

The Blue Mustangs improve to 5-9 overall and 4-8 in the AAAAA-East while West slips to 8-9 overall and 6-7 in the league.

Keland Mills, who had three thunderous slam dunks in the first half, led West with 17 points. Teammate Justin Conway finished with 14 and Cordius Williams added 10.

The Blue Mustangs led 17-14 after one period and pushed their lead to 30-24 at the half helped by three-pointers from Allen, Williams and Weaver.

But it was the third period, which has been Forrest City's worst quarter all year, that helped the team put the game on ice. The Blue Mustangs outscored West 18-to-8 in the third, their best third period effort since scoring 20 in the same period against Hughes on Nov. 26.

*At East, Nick Grady led all scorers with 15 points to lead the White Mustangs past West Memphis East 54-42.

Forrest City White improves to 2-12 for the year and 2-10 in the conference.

Taurus Moore and Cameron Henderson added 11 points each while Kyle Metcalf chipped in nine points for the White Mustangs.

Vester Gilliam led East with 13 points.
