Everette Lee Brawner

Mr. Everette Lee Brawner, age 68, of Forrest City, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at his home. Mr. Brawner lived in the Forrest City and Wynne area all of his life where he worked for Reliable Insurance Company. He was a member of the Wynne First Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Brawner was born Sept. 1, 1933 in Wynne and was the son of M.C. Brawner and Willie Ethel Kerr Brawner.

Mr. Brawner married Joan Sayre in 1952, and she survives him along with a daughter, Marilyn Gaskin of Forrest City; a son, Mark Brawner of Paragould; two brothers, Howard Brawner of Piermont, N.Y. and Macon Brawner of Wynne; three sisters, Vivian Pitts of Topeka, Kan., Veneda Cook of Boca Raton, Fla. and Juanita Hughes of West Palm Beach, Fla. and four grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Brawner will be held graveside at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2002 at Loughridge Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


Virginia Louise Tallman Dews

Mrs. Virginia Louise Tallman Dews, age 103, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in Hot Springs.

Mrs. Dews was born on Dec. 28, 1898 in Stuttgart, the daughter of Elliot and Carrie Mae Moody Tallman. She attended Ward-Belmont Academy and Northwestern University. Mrs. Dews lived in Brinkley, England, Stuttgart, Little Rock and Forrest City and was a member of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church were she served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and an elder.

Mrs. Dews married J.E. "Chink" Dews in 1926 who preceded in death along with her two daughters, Hester Dews Woodfield and Anne Dews Ridgeway.

Burial for Mrs. Dews was held in Forrest Park Cemetery by Stevens Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church at a later time. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.


Bennie Haggins

Mr. Bennie Haggins, age 66, of Forrest City, died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at his home.

Mr. Haggins, formerly of Chicago, Ill., was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Cotton Plant and was the son of John H. Haggins and Bessie L. McKay Haggins. He was a retired policeman in Chicago.

Mr. Haggins is survived by his wife Sulenar Neely Haggins of Forrest City; his parents; five daughters, Precious Brown, Janice Buchanan, Terry Henderson, Sonya Anderson and Melissa Henderson, all of Chicago; eight sons, Cordy Haggins of Sunrise, Fla., Larry Haggins, Lonnie Haggins, Robert Henderson, Carl Henderson, Willie Henderson and Dedrick Henderson, all of Chicago, Ill., and Dewayne Haggins of Forrest City; one brother, Curtis Haggins of Detroit, Mich. and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mr. Haggins will be held Monday, July 1, 2002 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at United Christians M. B. Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. Norris L. Latham Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.


Kathryn V. Stewart

Mrs. Kathryn V. Stewart, age 86, of Forrest City, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.

Mrs. Stewart was born May 21, 1916, in Monticello. She was the daughter of H.L. Veazey and Minnie Hillman Veazey. She lived in Forrest City most of her life, was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Stewart married Fenna Stewart in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1983. She is survived by two sons, Ross Stewart of Houston, Texas and Ronald Stewart of Forrest City; two daughters, Betty Sue Moore of California and Bessie Luker of Forrest City; one brother, Billy Veazey of Hamburg; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Stewart will be Monday, July 1, 2002 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services for Mrs. Stewart will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, with burial to follow in Forrest Park Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
