Calli Irene Cooper

Mrs. Calli Irene Cooper, age 95, of Jenks, Okla., died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Grace Living Center in Jenks. Mrs. Cooper was born in Agency, Iowa, on Sept. 17, 1906, the daughter of William and Minnie Headman. Her family moved to Green Forest before she was five. She was a member of Dawson Baptist Church since 1935.

Mrs. Cooper married A.E. Cooper in 1926 and he preceded her in death in 1954. Also preceding her in death are one son, Jimmy Leon Cooper and a granddaughter, Loretta. She is survived by a sister Leta Headman of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several great-great-grandchildren and two nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cooper were held Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Second Chance Baptist Church in Tulsa with Rev. Chase Bales officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at the Glenwood Cemetery in Green Forest.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice. Ninde-Whisenhunt Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Graham Griffith

Mr. Graham Griffith, 94, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Crestpark Retirement Inn.

He was born in Fredericktown, Mo., and moved to St. Francis County in 1929. He had lumber businesses in Hughes and Madison. He served as president of the Arkansas Wood Products Association in 1969.

Mr. Griffith was active in the Presbyterian Church, and he and his late wife, Elizabeth McLain Griffith, were organizing members of the Hughes Presbyterian Church in 1949. The family moved to Forrest City, and Mr. Griffith served as an elder and choir member in Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Griffith served on the Zoning Board of Forest City and on the Forrest Memorial Hospital Board. He was Treasurer of the City of Hughes and a member of the Crowley's Ridge Shrine Club. He was an organizing member of the Hughes Rotary Club and served in every elected office.

Mr. Griffith is survived by two daughters, Patsy Griffith Wagner of South Berwick, Maine and Betty Griffith McCallen of Collierville, Tenn.; two sons, Graham McClain Griffith of Germantown, Tenn. and Gordon Fentress Griffith of Forrest City; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church Choir and Organ Fund.


Mazel S. Mckee Hinshaw

Mrs. Mazel S. Mckee Hinshaw, 79, died at White River Medical Center in Batesville on June 3, 2002.

She was born July 1, 1922, in Morgan County, Ala., the daughter of T.R. and Ervia Fendley.

She was a member of the Colt Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a choir member and member of the ladies' auxiliary. She was a retired restaurant manager, a riverboat cook, a dancer and a gardener.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Mckee Slaughter and a son, Billy Gene Mckee.

She is survived by her husband, William Eugene Hinshaw of Hardy; a stepson, Billy Hinshaw of California; 10 children, Frances Jenkins of Nevada, Larry Mckee of Millington, Tenn., Laverne Lucas Dempsey of Forrest City, Shirley Mckee Drouin of San Diego, Calif., Cleo Mckee of Colt, Carol Wilkins Mott of Alexandria, La., Wanda Mckee of Forrest City, Needie Mckee Rountree of Forrest City, Rebecca Mckee Oakes of Hardy, Steve Mckee of Wynne; sisters Hazel Fletchall Dudgeon of Selmer, Tenn., Mildred Fendley of Aragon, Ga. and Ruth Williamson of Yazoo City, Miss.; brothers Mac Fendley and John B. Fendley of Lake Cormorant, Miss.; 29 grandchildren and a multitude of great grandchildren.

There will be visitation Wednesday night and a funeral service and burial on Thursday, June 6, 2002 with Rev. Charles Bradley, of Colt, conducting the service. Higginbotham Funeral Home of Hardy is in charge of arrangements.
