It is with great sorrow that my family and I morn the passing
of our father, John Ducan Henley, III. He passed away peacefully
at 2:45 a.m., June 4, only 14 days from his 77th birthday.
He was a long time resident of Gulf Breeze, FL, along with
our mother Glynda Henley, who preceded him in death, taught music
in the Gulf Breeze School System for many years.
Born in Augusta, AR on June 18, 1925, where he received his
basic education, after which he attended the University of AR
in Fayetteville, AR receiving his B.S. Degree in Music, while
at the same time meeting his future wife, who was fond of saying
that when she dropped out of college to marry him, she didn't
get a B.S. behind her name, but she was more proud of the Mrs.
in front of it.
His life was not one of a few great accomplishment, but rather
thousands of smaller ones which had an impact on the lives of
the many students with whom he came in contact, which in the large
scope of life is far more significant than the few accomplishments
of others. He was a dedicated teacher, father and friend who will
be greatly missed.
He is survived by four children; Christine Bryan of Milton,
FL, Karen Wuest of Gulf Breeze, FL, Kathy McCullar of Stonebrook,
NY and John Ducan Henley IV of Bokeelia, FL. Also he will be missed
by 16 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
We shall all miss you here Dad, but our loss is heavens gain,
because with both you and mother there together, the music of
heaven can't help but be sweeter.
The family will receive friends at Rose Lawn Funeral Home Friday
from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2002, at 10
a.m. at St. Paul Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Rose
Lawn Cemetery.
