FCity Legion takes down Lonoke 11-2

Flowers and Kennedy combine to drive in eight of team's 11 runs

LONOKE -- Danny Flowers returned to the Forrest City 'A' squad lineup Sunday and not only drove in five runs in an 11-2 win over Lonoke, but pitched six solid innings as well.

Flowers missed last week's schedule of Legion games attending Boys State.

Flowers scattered six Lonoke hits and issued one walk while striking out three before giving way to Jesse Whittemore who finished up the winning effort.

Forrest City improves to 2-5 for the year.

Flowers scored twice, going 3-for-5 from the plate with two doubles and a triple.

Clyde Kennedy was 3-for-3 in the game and scored one run while driving in three runs to help out.

Charles Gaines also scored twice.

Forrest City led 3-1 after one inning and 3-2 after two innings before plating two runs in the fifth and adding six in the seventh inning.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out.

Forrest City travels to Paragould today for an A-AAA doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.


Rauth 48th in first pro event

Forrest City's Adam Rauth finished in a tie for 48th in his first golf tournament as a professional on the Gateway Tour.

Headed into Friday's final round, Rauth was just three shots off the lead.

He finished with a 219, 16 shots back of the winning score of 203.

Rauth, a 1997 graduate of Forrest City High School, made the decision to turn pro this year after graduating from Arkansas State University, where he was a member of the Indian golf team.

He joined the Gateway Tour and was playing in the tour's first event at Desert Mountain Renegade Golf Course in Arizona.

The Gateway Tour offers 10, 54-hole events and five, 72-hole events and the top 50 players will qualify for the Gateway Tour Championship.

The tour continues as the players head to the Legend Trail Golf Course for the next event, which was scheduled to begin today.

Rauth is the son of Wally Rauth of Forrest City.

At Forrest City, Rauth was a three-year letterman with the Mustang high school golf team coached by Tommy Wheetley. Rauth medaled 22 times during that time.


Lucas pounds Sanyo to take over first place in Junior Bambino

Lucas Trucking took control of the Junior Bambino League on Saturday with a convincing 11-1 win over Sanyo.

Headed into the round of make-up games, both teams were unbeaten through eight games and both had played Friday night in regular scheduled games with Sanyo downing A&C Motors 8-3 and Lucas shutting out Title Company 13-0.

On Saturday, Sanyo downed the VIPs 18-1, while Lucas defeated Food Giant 20-3 before the two teams squared off.

The victory leaves Lucas at 9-0 and in first place in the league while Sanyo falls to second at 8-1.

Sanyo struck first for a 1-0 lead but Lucas used a two-run home run by Jim Bailey in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 lead.

Lucas added eight runs in the bottom of the third to put the game on ice.

Lucas and Sanyo are scheduled to meet once again on June 28.

Mr. T Auto split a pair of make-up games on Saturday, losing to the VIPs 6-5 and defeating Hill Concrete 6-5, to stay in third place in the league at 5-3.

Food Giant, 11-9 winners over Hill on Friday, stands at 4-5 for the year and locked in a three-way tie with Farm Credit and the VIPs for fourth place.

Farm Credit edged the VIPs on Friday 8-7 and downed Title Company 8-4 Saturday before losing to Hill Concrete 17-6 in the afternoon make-up game.

Other players hitting home runs over the weekend included Chandler Sorrells, Daries Banks, Dendric McCoy, Lee Henry Henderson (2), Jeffery Lopez and Josh Taylor.

Saturday's round of make-up games has the Junior Bambino teams caught up and back on schedule for the remainder of the season which runs through Tuesday, July 9.


FGiant dumps Dr. Schwartz to force tie for first place

Food Giant pulled into a tie for first place with Dr. Schwartz Friday night in the 10-under girls' slow pitch softball league.

Food Giant rolled over previously unbeaten Schwartz 14-4 Friday, leaving both teams at 7-1 for the year.

Schwartz won the first meeting between the two teams.

Food Giant led 3-2 after two innings and used a four-run, third inning to lead 7-2. Schwartz managed just two more runs after the third inning, while Food Giant plated seven more runs.

In other games played Friday, Forrest City Bank and Title Company split a pair of games with FCBank winning the first game of the evening 9-3 and Title Company taking the night cap 11-10.

Steven's defeated McDonald's 13-4 and True Value walked past Sanyo 15-6, leaving Steven's and True Value locked in a tie for second place in the league.

Southern Furniture defeated Walker 6-4 in the final game of the schedule.


Giffin's keeps their hold on 12-under

Giffin's Grins continued their strong hold on the 12-under girls' fast pitch softball league Friday with an 11-4 win over McDonald's.

The latest victory leaves Giffin's at 7-0 for the year.

Times-Herald held off Children's Clinic 18-17 Friday night, scoring the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

T-H remains in second place behind Giffin's at 5-2.

Crowley's Ridge downed Stone Cold Chemicals 14-13 to improve to 4-3 and stayed in third place in the league while McDonald's slipped to 3-4 but stays in fourth place.

Giffin's scored three runs in the first and five in the second inning to lead 8-2 after two innings.

Children's Clinic led 17-15 going into the bottom of the fourth.

T-H scored the winning run on a passed ball by the catcher to win the game.

Crowley's led 14-11 going into the bottom of the sixth and held off a last at-bat rally by Stone Cold to get the win.


Tenth straight win keeps T&J firmly in control of Minor League standings

T&J Properties ran their season mark to 10-0 Friday night by taking an 18-8 win over Ben's Auto in Minor League play.

The win keeps T&J two full games ahead of second place Devazier, a 15-12 winner over M&T Paving Friday night.

In make up games played Saturday, Joey's Muffler ran their record to 6-4 for the year and stayed in third place in the league with an 8-6 win over Ben's Auto. Joey's had lost earlier in the day to Easley Law 13-10.

And Dr. Beasley finished a five-game in four day schedule with a 14-3 win over M&T Paving Saturday to finish the stretch at 4-1.

Beasley stands at 5-5 for the year and in fourth place in the league.

The team's only loss came Saturday against Lion's Club, who won the game 11-10.

The league resumes play tonight at the Sports Complex.


Food Giant stops St. John in their tracks

Food Giant shocked Dr. St. John Friday night in girls' 16-under fast pitch softball, winning 8-4 and stopping St. John's five-game win streak.

The loss leaves St. John and Sanyo tied for second place in the league standings at 5-2.

Bonanza leads the league at 6-1 while Food Giant is 4-3.

St. John led 2-1 after one inning and Food Giant tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second.

St. John regained the lead at 4-2 in the top of the third before Food Giant scored four times in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-4.

Sanyo held off Clay Funeral Home 16-14 on Friday while Bonanza ran all over Boar's Head 15-1.

Boar's Head did not score until the bottom of the fourth inning.


Wrestling super stars will invade FCity Civic Center on Thursday

The Forrest City Police Department and the City of Forrest City will be presenting a night of education and entertainment with the superstars of Championship Wrestling, on Thursday, June 13, as seen weekly on TV5 out of Memphis.

The program will be held at the Forrest City Civic Center and begins at 7 p.m.

This program is a family oriented event being paid for entirely through a grant from the Arkansas Department of Health for Drug Education.

The featured Speaker will be "Too Sexay" Brian Christopher, who will talk about the dangers of drugs and drug use.

Christopher was released from the WWF last year.

In addition to hearing from Christopher, the show will feature several local individuals who have turned their lives around after making the wrong decision on drugs will tell their stories.

The night's card features

Sir Mo, Derrick King, "All That" Alan Steel, Beale Street Posse, the Spellbinder, the Fabulous Rocker, "All Natural" Flex, "Hollywood" Jimmy Blaylock, Nate the Rat and from Forrest City, Rage.
