VIPs hand Lucas first loss of season

Having team photos made just before a game may have its advantages.

At least, it did for the VIPs in Junior Bambino.

The VIPs did Tuesday night what no other team has done in the league this season -- hand Lucas Trucking a loss.

The VIPs scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning and held Lucas in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-4 win.

In other league games Tuesday, Mr. T Auto downed Food Giant 15-14, Hill Concrete defeated Title Company 13-2 and A&C Motors ran past Farm Credit 21-6.

Lucas led 4-2 going into the top of the fourth inning.

The VIPs even their season mark at 5-5 in the league while Lucas falls to 9-1, but still holds first place. Sanyo, which had an open date Tuesday, is 8-1 and in second place. Sanyo's only loss came last Saturday against Lucas.

Louis Driver tripled, walked twice and scored two runs to help push the VIPs to the victory. He got offensive help from Anthony Wallace, DeMario Peters and Kyle Smith, each scoring single runs.

Peters pitched the complete game, holding Lucas to the four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out 10.

Lucas got a pair of runs from John Jones and single runs from Theodis Goodwin and Sharderio Logan, who homered in the bottom of the third.

Lucas led 1-0 until the VIPs scored twice in the top of the third to lead 2-1.

Lucas answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to regain a 4-2 lead.

Mr. T got three runs from Zach Hill and two runs from Kantrel Hines and Larry Smith in their win over Food Giant.

Mr. T scored nine runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 12-12 after Food Giant plated 10 runs int he first inning.

Cody Broussard led Food Giant by scoring three runs.

Brandon Rickard, Tate Roberts, Josh Taylor and Will Whittenton each scored three runs to lead A&C past Farm Credit.

A&C plated 13 runs in the top of the second inning.

Chad Hogue, Ben Dickey, Lance Hughes, Brandon Moton, Tony Morgan and Harrison Hargraves scored single runs for Farm Credit.

Hill improved to 3-7 for the season and used three runs by Lee Henry Henderson, including a solo homer, to run past Title Company13-2.

Latarian Johnson and Ladarius Townsend added two runs each while Davyon McKinney, Andrew Atkins, Dendric McCoy, Dominique Smith, Brandyn Granberry and Dominique Madden scored single runs for Hill Concrete.

RoRo Steverson scored a single run for Title Company.

Title Company falls to 1-9 for the year.

The league has seven playing dates left in the regular season.


T&J moves to 11-0 with win over Easley Law

T&J Properties put up another 'W' Tuesday night and Dr. Beasley moved one game over .500 in Minor League play.

T&J stayed unbeaten and ran their league mark to 11-0 Tuesday with as 24-12 win over Easley Law.

Beasley improved to 6-5 for the year and stayed in fourth place with a 9-7 win over Ben's Auto.

It was the second time this season that Beasley has defeated Ben's.

Beasley got a home run from Quinton Jones, who scored twice and Austin Chapman. Brodie Johnson scored twice, using a single and a double while Kendall Lee, Spencer Morgan, Dekovan Fleming and Philandus Watson all scored single runs.

Ben's led 4-3 after one inning and Beasley tied the game in the top of the second. Ben's plated a run in the bottom of the second to regain a 5-4 cushion before Beasley tied it at 5-5 in the top of the third and took the lead in the fourth with a single run.

Beasley added three more runs in the fifth while holding Ben's to two runs in the team's final at bat.

Darrien Green homered for Ben's and scored three runs while Ryan Green scored twice and Austin Kennedy, James Alldredge and Karlton Lawrence added single runs.

T&J got four runs from Andre Dulaney and Matt Jumper in the team's big win over Easley. Tyrin White, Michale Wingo and Colin Love scored three runs each. Delan Parkman, Daniel Davenport and Joewaan Mitchell scored two runs each.

Easley got runs from Raheem Wynne, Michael Leslie, Robert Lee, Antonio Sanders, Bryan Hinton, Daniel Pettus and Finie Norment.


Crowley's nips Times-Herald 13-12

Victory means a tie for second place in 12-under league

Crowley's Ridge pulled into a tie for second place in the 12-under girls' fast pitch softball league Tuesday, by edging Times-Herald 13-12.

Both teams are 5-3 for the year and locked in a tie for second behind unbeaten league leaders, Giffin's Grins, a 12-3 winner over Stone Cold Chemicals.

Times-Herald tied the game at 12-12 with four runs in the top of the fourth inning before Crowley's plated the winning run in the bottom half of the inning.

Christina Faulk scored three runs -- including the game-winner -- for Crowley's while Jazzalyn Rodgers, Alicia Hall, Ashley Boswell, Jasmine Williams, Tiara Jones and Brittney Cook each added runs.

Caitlyn Hargraves, Amber Hill, Stonie Weeks and Sara Cate Lewey scored two runs each for Times-Herald while Madeline Lawrence, Mary Hoshall Hodges, Elaina Patton and Ryan Cole scored single runs.

Giffin's got two runs each from Ikeshia Chism, Cassandra Jackson and jasmine Scott in the win over Stone Cold.

Scott led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run.

Megan Meridith, Courtney Burns and Amber King scored single runs for Stone Cold.

McDonald's improved to 4-4 for the year Tuesday with their win over Children's Clinic.

McDonald's broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the second inning by scoring five runs. Children's added two runs in the bottom of the second but failed to score for the remainder of the game.

Tiffany Flenoy led McDonald's with three runs and got help from Alondra Pritchard, Christy Tittle, Erin Marlowe, Akilah Norman, Elizabeth Smith and Chantal Driver.

Kayla Buchanan scored two runs for Children's while Shalon Johnson and Brittney Johnson added runs.


True Value shuts down Title Company to remain locked in second place

True Value put away Title Company Tuesday night in 10-under girls' slow pitch softball to remain in second place in the league standings behind co-leaders Dr. Schwartz and Food Giant.

True Value shut out Title Company 11-0 to improve to 7-2 for the year.

Schwartz downed McDonald's 9-5 and Food Giant defeated Steven's 10-7 to improve to 8-1 and remain in a tie for first place.

Sisters Kimberly and Sharicka Jones and Kristina Ford and Shanneka Barber led True Value by scoring two runs each.

Title Company, 2-7 on the season, managed just two base runners during the game.

Schwartz got two runs each from Nikki Derrick and Cara McCollum in the win over McDonald's, who was led by Taylor Metcalf, and Chiquita Loney.

Food Giant got runs from Kiuana King, Tanesha Parchman, Raven Harrell, Ariel Norment and Trenekia Holloway in the win over Steven's.

Caroline Nimocks and Kaitlyn Peterson led Steven's by scoring two runs each.

Steven's improves to 6-3 for the year and remains in third place in the league standings.

Sanyo scored five runs in the fourth inning to put away Walker Insurance 11-8 while Southern Furniture shut out Forrest City Bank 9-0.

Using four runs in the first inning, Southern Furniture went on to add two runs in the third and three in the final at bat to get the win.

Miranda Barron and Tatyana Ursery led Southern by scoring two runs each.

Sanyo got two runs from Joy Stephens and Haley Morris while Lindsey Smith, Kirbi Stotts and Amber Jones added single runs.


Winning team has FCity ties

Jeb and Bryan Mills shot an 8-under par 136 Tuesday to win the Arkansas State Golf Association's Father and Son Championship played at the Golf Club at Valley View in Farmington.

Jeb Mills is the son of Barbara Mills of Forrest City and the nephew of Gazzola Vaccaro of Forrest City while Bryan is Barbara's grandson.

Jeb grew up in Forrest City is a graduate of Forrest City High School.


Bonanza picks up easy win over Clay

Bonanza improved to 7-1 for the year Tuesday night in girls' 16-under fast pitch softball and didn't even have to throw a pitch.

Bonanza was awarded a forfeit win after Clay Funeral failed to field a team for the Tuesday night matchup.

Dr. St. John improved to 6-2 for the year with a 13-2 win over Boar's Head and Food Giant pulled into a tie for third place with a 14-2 win over Sanyo.

Rebecca Brown, Natalie Nelson, Loren Andrews and Jennifer Lopez each scored twice for St. John.

Food Giant was led by Torrie Willis, Casey Qualls, Jessica Lewis and Mallory Nelson, each scoring three runs in the win.

League play resumes Friday night.
