The Junior Babe Ruth League will conclude its regular season schedule tonight by playing a pair of make up games at the Sports Complex.

The two games were originally scheduled for May 9, but were rained out.

At least one of the games has league championship inplications.

Freeman, 6-1 for the year, will take on Ridout Lumber, 3-4 for the year, at 6 p.m.

A Freeman victory would give them a tie for first place in the league standings with Union Planters Bank (7-1). Union Planters concluded their season on Monday.

A tie between the two teams would set the stage for a possible one-game playoff to determine the outright champion, according to Kenneth Taylor, director of the youth baseball and softball programs in Forrest City.

Taylor said there is plenty of time to have a playoff game since the District 7 Babe Ruth tournaments do not begin until July 5.

Tonight's late game puts Rotary Club against Fred's at 7:45 p.m.

FCity CC will host The Ralph on July 1

The Ralph Thompson Memorial Charity Golf Tournament, which is been dubbed "The Ralph," will be held Monday, July 1, at the Forrest City Country Club.

The tournament will benefit the East Arkansas Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Entry fee into the four-man scramble field is $100 per per person and players can form their own team or players can be placed.

Hole sponsorships for $200 per hole, are available.

John Thompson, of Forrest City and Ralph Thompson's son, will be on hand at the tournament.

Registration deadline for the tournament is June 21.

The tournament is being sponsored by Nimocks Oil, Exxon and Pepsi Co.

The very first All-Star football game was played at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock on August 17, 1956.

The first All-Star boys' basketball game was played at Little Rock High School gym one day earlier the same year and the first All-Star girls' basketball game was played in 1971 at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock.

Since that time, the football and basketball games have remained entrenched in the central Arkansas area in Little Rock and most recently Conway.

That is until this year.

2002 marks the first time for the All-Star games to be held outside of Central Arkansas moving all the way to northwest Arkansas to Fayetteville.

The 47th annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Stars games will be played next week.

The basketball site is Bud Walton Arena on the University of Arkansas campus. The football site will be Reynolds Razorback Stadium and the volleyball game will be played at Barnhill Arena.

The All-Star headquarters will be Pomfret Hall, on the University of Arkansas campus.

The All-Star week schedule breaks down like this:

On Sunday, June 16, the All-Star players will report to check in and to take part in media day activities.

On Monday, June 17, a Celebrity-Media Golf Tournament will be played at the Fayetteville Country Club.

On Tuesday, June 18, the All-Star Banquet will be held at the Town Center.

The girls' All-Star Volleyball game will be played Wednesday, June 19, at Barnhill beginning at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, June 20, the Boys and Girls All-Star Basketball games will be played at Bud Walton Arena, with the girls taking the court at 6 p.m. and the boys following at 9 p.m.

And finally, on Friday, June 21, the All-Star Football Game will kickoff at Reynolds Razorback Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Wynne's Don Campbell will coach the East All-Star squad which will have Palestine-Wheatley's Ray Gardner on the roster.

Bentonville's Gary Wear will coach the West team.

Here's a reminder. The Forrest City Mustang and Lady Mustang basketball camp for male and female students going into the seventh, eighth and ninth grades in the fall, will start Monday, June 17, at Mustang Arena. The camp will run through Wednesday, June 19.

Lady Mustang Coach Sue Jayroe said today that only a handful of students have registered for the camp.

"We need to get the word out about the camp and get these kids signed up," Jayroe said. "The cost for each camper is just $20 and we need to have more kids sign up."

The camp is limited to the first 50 boys and girls to register, but Jayroe said the number of kids who have signed already isn't even close to reaching that mark.

"There's plenty of room. Regardless of the number of kids who sign up, we will provide a camp, but we want to have a many as we can get," Jayroe said.

The girls will attend from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., each day while the boys will attend from 12 noon until 3 p.m., each day.

And don't forget, the Mustang/Lady Mustang camp for elementary boys and girls (fourth, fifth and sixth grades) will be held July 8, 9, 10, 11 at Mustang Arena.

Again, the cost per camper is $20 and the camp is limited to the first 50 boys and girls who register.
