3 teams in Bambino title hunt

By FRED CONLEY

T-H Sports Editor

The Bambino (11-12) League remains a three-team race for the season title Monday between first-place L&L Electric, second place Pearson Insurance and third-place Cochran Auto.

L&L improved to 10-1 for the year with three regular season games left to be played with a 16-9 win over Cochran Auto.

For Cochran, the loss was painful but not devastating. At 7-4, Cochran still has an outside shot at a share of the league title -- but at this point it is a "long" outside shot.

Cochran needs to win their final three games while L&L and Pearson would have to lose their final three games. In the event that happens, Cochran would finish in a tie for first with L&L.

Monday night, Pearson (9-2) halted Taylor Glass' three-game winning streak with a 14-1 victory.

Chance Pearson and Quinn Powell combined for the pitching duties, holding Taylor to one run on four base hits. Pearson and Powell combined for eight strikeouts.

Allen Triggs led Pearson by scoring three times and Chad Doyle homered in the second inning which saw Pearson push eight runs across the plate.

Powell, Pearson, Doyle and Ross Dunn each scored two runs while Mark Machen, Amos Hines and Alexander Dulaney scored single runs.

Taylor worked behind the pitching of Justin Nosler and Joe DeWitt with Ashton Hunt scoring the team's lone run.

L&L broke open a tight game over Cochran by scoring eight runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Julian Isom led L&L by scoring four times while Chauncey Boles scored three runs. Findley Scott Laws, Barrett Beshears and Daniel Richards added two runs each and Tyrice Bradley and Garritt Clark added single runs.

Cochran got two runs from Chris Tripp and single runs from Justin Cochran, Randy Crawford, Edgar Morris, Douglas Miller and Nathan Jefferson.

Taco Bell improved to 6-5 for the year by holding off Bonanza 6-5 Monday night.

Trailing 2-1, Taco Bell plated four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. Taco Bell added a single run in the fourth while Bonanza plated a run in the bottom of the fourth and added two in the fifth to get within one run at 6-5. Bonanza had the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs but couldn't score before the final out.

Seth Smith and Nehemiah Stephens each scored twice to lead Taco Bell while Justin Gadberry and Hunter McMahand scored single runs.

Bonanza got two runs from Charles Daugherty and one run each from Lee Smith and Jonathan Cottrell.

In Monday's final game, Vaccaro ran their season mark to 3-8 with an 11-5 win over Ray Houser.

Dale Boyd led Vaccaro by scoring three runs on two singles and a home run.

Houser got thre runs from James Green.

T&J, 13-0, plated seven runs in the first inning to set the stage for the victory, leaving T&J one win away from an undefeated season.

Andre Dulaney and Barlow Herbert each scored three runs while Tyrin White and Daniel Davenport added two runs each to lead T&J.

White homered in the second inning.

Joey's got two runs each from Jarrod Wright and Michael Ludwig and single runs from Dusty Smith and Deion Colbert.

Joey's plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

The Lion's Club scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 8-6 lead over Ben's Auto and held on for a 12-7 victory Monday night.

Sanyo put away Miller Insurance Monday night in Men's softball and moved into a first-place tie with idle Barnes Timber.

Both teams are 9-0 for the year.

Sanyo led 3-1 after one inning and then began to put the game out of reach with three runs in the second inning and four runs in the fourth to lead 10-5 on their way to a 14-7 victory.

M&T Paving stayed in a tie for second place in the league with Gym 2000 by defeating Greg's Small Engine 17-3.

M&T scored five runs in the first and third innings to build a 13-0 lead.

M&T improves to 8-2 for the year.

Gym 2000 pushed its season mark to 8-2 Monday with an 18-12 win over TSM Computers.

After spotting TSM a pair of first inning runs, Gym 2000 scored four times in the bottom of the first and then added runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Gym 2000 sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth to score 10 runs while belting a pair of home runs.

TSM plated five runs in the top of the fourth to trail by only a single run at 8-7 and added four runs in the fifth inning.

Food Giant led 4-1 before Morgan plated four runs in the second inning and then put the game away with four runs in the third and eight runs in the fourth.

Morgan improves to 6-5 for the year.

The Bulldogs remained in a tie for third place in the men's league with Kerby's by downing the Young Guns 20-4.

The Young Guns were holding a 4-2 lead before the Bulldogs erupted for nine runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

The Young Guns fall to 3-7 for the year.

Kerby's used a big seven-run, first inning to shut out Boar's Head 16-0 Monday night.

Boar's Head managed just two base hits in the game, which ended after just three innings.

In women's softball league play, First National Bank won for the second time this season with a 14-2 victory over Clark Appraisals Monday.

Mohr Sports scored five runs in the fourth inning to put away Purple Haze 10-6.
