Giffin's completes perfect season

The 12-under girls' fast pitch softball league completed its regular season schedule Tuesday night.

Giffin's, which clinched the league title last Friday, finished unbeaten at 10-0 when Times-Herald was forced to forfeit Tuesday's final game.

Times-Herald, last year's league champs, finished in a three-way tie for second place in the league with McDonald's a 17-15 winner over Stone Cold Chemicals Tuesday and Crowley's Ridge, who downed Children's Clinic 15-3 in their final game.

All three teams are 6-4 for the year.

Alondra Pritchard, Erin Marlowe, Chantal driver and Randi Laws each scored three runs for McDonald's.

Stone Cold got three runs each from heather Hodges and Courtney Burns.

Jazzlyn Rodgers, Alicia Hall, Ashley Boswell and Jasmine Williams led Crowley's.


Bonanza downs Sanyo to clinch league title

Bonanza put the lid on the 16-under girls' fast pitch softball league Tuesday, with a 16-4 win over Sanyo.

The victory gives Bonanza, 9-1, the outright league title while Dr. St. John finishes in second place at 8-2.

Bonanza scored four runs in the first inning and five in the second to take an early 9-0 lead.

St. John downed Clay Funeral Home 16-1 Tuesday night.

The final 16-under matchup of the night resulted in Boar's Head taking a forfeit win over Food Giant.

Shardavia Davis and Katie McNair led Bonanza by scoring three runs each while Randal Ross homered.

St. John was led by Tyeshia McDaniel and Loren Andrews, who scored three times each while Kristin Rodriguez and Amanda Hoots added two runs each.


VIPs knock off Sanyo; Lucas rolls past Food Giant

The VIPs notched another big victory Tuesday night, knocking off Sanyo 12-2 in Junior Bambino League play.

A week ago, it was the VIPs team that handed league-leading Lucas Trucking its first loss of the year.

The victory helps the VIPs improve to 7-5 for the year while Sanyo slips to 8-3.

Lucas pushed their season mark to 11-1 Tuesday by taking a 16-0 shut out win over Food Giant.

Farm Credit was awarded a forfeit win over Title Company and Hill Concrete downed Mr. T Auto 17-12.

Sanyo tied the game against the VIPs at 2-2 with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

It was all VIPs after that as the winners scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning, sending 14 batters to the plate.

Mario Peters led the way by scoring three runs and Jerrod Brown and Anthony Walker added two runs each.

Sanyo got runs from Akeem Bogart and Cory Deere.

Hill Concrete pushed their league mark to 4-7 by scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning and then adding six runs in the second and three in the third to trip Mr. T Auto.

Davyon McKinney led the way by scoring three runs while Latrian Johnson, Andrew Atkins, Dendric McCoy, Dominique Smith and Dominique Madden added two runs each.

Johnson and Lee Henry Henderson combined for the pitching duties.

Mr. T got three runs from Kantrel Hines and two runs from Larry Smith. Smith homered in the second inning.

Lucas rolled over Food Giant getting three runs each from John Jones, Bruce Heard and Jeffrey Siler and two runs each from Jim Bailey, and Daries Banks.

Bailey homered in the second inning.

Food Giant sent just 12 batters to the plate, suffering seven strikeouts.

The league has five regular season playing dates remaining.


Bryant delivers game-winning hit against Beasley

L. Scott Bryant, batting 10th in the order, came through with the game-winning hit to score Jacob Graves to lift Devazier to a come-from-behind 8-7 win over Dr. Beasley Tuesday in Minor League play.

Devazier improves to 10-3 for the year and has already clinched second place in the league behind champions T&J.

Bryant's hit came in the bottom of the sixth and helped break a 7-7 tie.

Tyler McElroy scored twice for Devazier and Brian Morgan homered.

Kendall Lee led Beasley with three runs, two of those three coming on home runs.

In Tuesday's other game, M&T Paving downed Easley Law 17-7.

The league will play makeup games tonight with Joey's and Ben's Auto at 6 p.m. and Beasley taking on M&T at 7:30 p.m.


10-under league race tightens up

Three teams tied for league lead

The race for the championship in the 10-under girls' slow pitch league got a little tighter Tuesday night.

Both league co-leaders -- Food Giant and Dr. Schwartz -- suffered losses, leaving the league with three teams locked in a tie for first place.

Food Giant lost to True Value 6-1 while Dr. Schwartz was losing to Steven's 10-3.

That leaves Food Giant, Schwartz and now True Value with identical 9-2 season marks.

Steven's isn't far behind at 8-3 in second place.

There are seven playing dates remaining in the league schedule.

The district tournaments will be played in West Memphis this year.

Steven's led 4-2 after one inning and 5-3 after two innings. Schwartz did not score after the second inning and had just two base runners.

In other games played Tuesday, Title Company picked up their third win of the season taking down Walker Insurance 15-13.

Title Company got four runs Rachel Morphis and three runs from Katie Davis and two runs from Paige Owens and Semiko Grady.

Forrest City Bank cruised by McDonald's 8-2 and Sanyo defeated Southern Furniture 9-4.

Christin Clark scored three runs to lead Forrest City Bank while Kristina Fort and Sharicka Jones led True Value by scoring two runs each.


Summer basketball league forming

The Boys' and Girls' Club of Cross County is starting a summer basketball league for adult men, ages 19-and-older.

The league will play at least a 10-game season, July 16-Sept. 20, at the Odell McCallum Community Center, 325 Magnolia Street in Wynne.

Depending on the number of teams the season may be extended.

Teams can have up to 15 players and games will be played on Tuesday and/or Thursday nights.

Cost per team is $150 and the deadline to enter the league is Monday, July 8.
