WYNNE -- It wasn't Forrest City's pitching that can be faulted in Sunday's doubleheader loss to Wynne.
It was the Forrest City defense -- or lack of defense that kept the American Legion team winless and allowed Wynne to pick up their first victories of the year.
Forrest City will host Paragould today at 5 p.m., for an A-AAA doubleheader.
Forrest City starting pitcher Sean Northcutt went five solid innings for Forrest City in the AAA game Sunday before Daniel Parten finished up.
Northcutt gave up only two hits through five innings but sloppy defensive play and too many errors behind the Forrest City starter, helped Wynne to a 9-5 win.
Wynne plated eight of the nine runs while Northcutt was on the mound and added the final run off Parten in the bottom of the sixth.
Wynne scored four times in the bottom of the first and added a single run in the second (all unearned runs) to lead 5-0 going into the fifth inning.
Forrest City loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with two outs but only got one run when Clyde Kennedy scored on a hit by Northcutt which was misplayed by Wynne for an error.
Robert Hill flied out to end the inning with the bases loaded.
Wynne tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth using one hit, a squeeze bunt and four Forrest City errors to lead 8-1.
Forrest City scored three times in the top of the sixth once again loading the bases, this time with one out.
With one out, Adam Roberts walked and Colby McKennon used a fielder's choice to get on base leaving Roberts safe at second. Kennedy's line drive RBI single down the third base line scored Roberts and Chris Autry's single to left center field packed the bags for Northcutt who sacrifice fly plated McKennon. Issac Davis was safe on a well-executed hit and run play which left Davis at first and plated Kennedy as Forrest City cut the Wynne lead in half at 8-4.
With Parten on the mound in the bottom of the sixth, Wynne loaded the bases with one out and scored a run on a passed ball.
Forrest City scratched out a run in the top of the seventh when Hill walked and scored on McKennon's RBI single to center field.
Kennedy scored two of Forrest City's five runs with Roberts, McKennon and Hill scoring single runs.
Forrest City's AAA team falls to 0-3 while Wynne gets even at 1-1.
*Wynne also took the A game, winning 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh.
Former Wynne player Jesse Whittemore went the distance for Forrest City giving up five hits along the way.
Wynne led 1-0 after one inning and the score remained the same until the top of the fifth when Issac Davis singled and scored on Autry's routine ground out to tie the game at 1-1.
Forrest City took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth when Whittemore singled and scored.
Wynne loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning for Wade Boeckmann, whose grounder back to the pitcher's mound hit Whittemore and bounced away and out of play as two runs scored to life Wynne to the victory.
The loss leaves the Forrest City A team at 0-4 for the year and Wynne at 1-1.
Forrest City was without two starters Sunday, Dustin Gore and Danny Flowers.
