By FRED CONLEY

T-H Sports Editor

There was good news and bad news for the Forrest City American Legion team Monday night.

First, the good news.

Hosting Paragould at the Sports Complex, The Forrest City 'A' squad broke through to pick up their first victory of the season, a 10-6 win.

Forrest City improves to 1-4.

Now the bad news.

Paragould pitcher Matthew Davis pitched a complete game, no hit, shut out in the AAA contest. In fact, Davis didn't walk a batter and finished with a perfect game.

He faced only nine Forrest City batters in just three innings as Paragould collected 18 hits to score 22 runs.

Davis struck out three of the nine hitters he faced.

Forrest City used three pitchers beginning with Chris Autry, then calling on Princeton Davis and finishing with Jimmy Aldridge.

The AAA team falls to 0-4 for the year.

In the A game, starting pitcher Colby McKennon scattered 10 Paragould hits in giving up the six Paragould runs. McKennon walked three and struck out eight on his way to the complete-game victory.

Paragould opened a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning.

Forrest City battled back to tie the game at 4-4 using runs from Charles Gaines, Princeton Davis, Aldridge and Autry.

Aldridge had the big hit, a two-RBI triple.

Forrest City added six runs in the bottom of the fifth sending 10 batters to plate.

Gaines, Davis, and Aldridge each scored two runs each in the game.

Paragould scratched out two more runs in their final at bat to ste the final score.

Back to the AAA game.

Paragould got all of the runs they would need in the first inning when they plated seven.

They added six runs in the second and nine run in the third.

Matthew Miller, Scott Swindle, Rusty Farrin and Drew Kellums each scored three runs to lead Paragould.

Forrest City will travel to Batesville today for another A-AAA doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

The teams have a day off on Wednesday before opening play Thursday at the Jonesboro American Legion tournament.

Forrest City will play a single game on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Forrest City Arkansas Concrete, an 11-year-old traveling youth baseball team, won the Huey's School's Out Celebration Tournament played at Southaven, Miss. over the weekend.

Arkansas Concrete was the only one of the 16 teams to finish the tournament undefeated at 5-0.

Playing from four-team pools, Arkansas Concrete defeated the Greenwood Storm on Friday 4-3 and then picked up two wins on Saturday, downing the Jackson Bullets 10-2 and Cape County Cherokees (Jackson, Miss.) 14-4.

That put Arkansas Concrete into the championship round against the Central Arkansas Trailblazers from Benton, a team they shut out 9-0 to reach the overall championship game against the Bolivar Fire Ants from Bolivar, Tenn.

Arkansas held off the Fire Ants 8-6.

Bolivar opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Arkansas Concrete rallied for four runs in the bottom of the second when Alex Andrews, Turner Norsworthy, Jacob Smith and Douglas Ferguson each scored single runs.

The Fire Ants cut Arkansas Concrete's lead to one run, 4-3, with a single run in the top of the third before the Concrete team made it 5-3 in the bottom half of the inning with a run by Joey Bonds.

Bolivar crept back within one run in the top of the fourth at 5-4 but again Arkansas Concrete answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs for a 7-4 cushion when Andrews and Ferguson scored single runs.

The Fire Ants plated two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Concrete lead to 7-6.

Andrews, from the Wynne area, scored twice for Arkansas Concrete as did Ferguson.

Arkansas Concrete recently finished second at the West Tennessee Invitational Tournament and qualified for the 11-year-old USSSA World Series to be played at Overland Park, Kansas in July.

The team will play in the state tournament at Fort Smith later this month.

Team members are Andrews, Norsworthy, Ferguson, Smith, Bonds, Baker Aldridge, Brent DeVazier, Seth Smith, Aaron Poole, Barrett Astin and Raymond Patillo.
