BATESVILLE -- Forrest City American Legion Coach Darrell Gaskin says his players are just trying to "hold it together."
With just two 18-year-olds on roster, Gaskin's A and AAA Legion teams are virtually the same -- very young and struggling.
Such was the case again Tuesday at Batesville where Forrest City dropped both games of a scheduled doubleheader.
The A team lost 10-1 and the AAA squad was shut out 13-0.
"We're not making the fundamental and basic plays," Gaskin said. "At least not in the game. I watch them make the same plays with ease at practice, but it's a different story in the game."
The A squad managed just four hits against Batesville one each by Clyde Kennedy, Charles Gaines, Jimmy Aldridge and Robert Hill.
Kennedy scored the only run in the top of the fifth after reaching base and scoring when Colby McKennon grounded into a double play.
Daniel Parten and Aldridge combined from the mound.
In the AAA game, Sean Northcutt, who pitched very well against Wynne on Sunday, went the complete game again Tuesday in the 13-0 shutout.
In Wynne's 9-5 win, the Forrest City defense let Northcutt down. Against Batesville, Forrest City had just two hits, both singles by McKennon and Adam Roberts.
Gaskin said he has dropped out of the Jonesboro AAA tournament set to begin Thursday.
