The two teams that started the high school basketball season as the No. 1 teams finished the same way.
Little Rock Parkview defeated Little Rock Central 63-57 in Saturday's Class AAAAA boys' state championship game. Monday, the Patriots, who began the season on top of the Associated Press poll, ended on top of the final AP poll.
In the championship game, sophomore Mark Winston led the Patriots with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
It was the same story for the Fort Smith Northside girls, who won their fourth straight Class AAAAA state title Friday with a 67-56 win over West Memphis.
Parkview gave up the No. 1 spot to Little Rock Central on Jan. 31, after a two-point loss to the Tigers.
Northside's girls held the No. 1 spot in the polls for the entire season.
Both Parkview and Northside were unanimous choices for the No. 1 ranking in Monday's final balloting.
Central finished in second place in the final boys poll. Osceola, who won the Class AAAA state title last weekend, finished third while Fayetteville ended fourth and Conway fifth. The second five are Little Rock Fair, followed by Class AAA state champs, Pulaski Academy and Class AA state champs Poyen. Camden Fairview and El Dorado finished in a tie for ninth.
West Memphis, a member of the AAAAA-East Conference, finished second in the final girls poll, followed by Harrison, the Class AAAA champs, Mountain Home, Highland, the Class AAA state champs, Jonesboro, Springdale, Ozark, Greenland and Sheridan.
Osceola won its second straight title by defeating Fair 55-54. In the class AAA championship, Pulaski Academy defeated Dumas 53-44 while Poyen (39-0) completed an unbeaten season with a 70-67 overtime victory over Hector in the AA title game.
Harrison's girls won the AAAA title, beating Siloam Springs 78-62. Highland captured the Class AAA championship with a 55-53 victory over Ozark. Greenland defeated Poyen 68-52 in the Class AA final.
